The Pixies are doing a "Lost Cities" tour -- Performing their album "Doolittle" in it's entirety in cities they've never played. Great album and easily one of my favorites. When I found out one of their "Lost Cities" would be about 1.5 hours from here, that was close enough for a road trip.
We bought tickets through their fan pre-sale on their website. Seats would be assigned in the order the tickets were purchased. We had no idea where we were sitting until we picked them up from the box office the night of the show. I love it when bands do this. It ensures fans get the best seats and it completely cuts out scalping. We've purchased tickets to several Nine Inch Nails shows through something similar and have always been in the first few rows.
Anyway, we arrive at the venue last night curious to see where we'd be sitting. I pick the tickets up and can't believe my eyes -- We're assigned row AAA and seats 13 and 14. Sounds almost like "front-row-center" to me. Surely there's a AAAA or AAA is the third row of the orchestra pit. We head down the aisle to our seats and sure enough -- Front row! I'm estatic. Perfect seats for my first Pixies show.
I was able to snap a few decent shots with my cell phone, too:
