No, I Couldn't Be That Stupid

Murid

I went back to Washington for a management course, carrying the usual list of things to buy from the Land of Plenty. Mrs. Murid's birthday was two weeks away so a birthday present was at the top of the list. (Really, it was right under GRAW 2 and Borat, but those were necessities.)

I found what I was looking for, packed it away, and brought it home. I unpacked in a jet-lagged stupor. As I often do, I put it somewhere so it wouldn't get lost and where she wouldn't find it. I couldn't find it either, at least for three days after I started looking for it in a panic. I vaguely remembered putting it in a drawer in the bedroom, so I came home for lunch and searched. Nothing. The nanny hadn't seen it either. Two days before the birthday, and I had to ask myself do I keep looking for another day, give up and race out to buy something else, or when the big day came, grit my teeth and confess, "Look I ordered your present, and it didn't come" to buy some more time to find it.

I found it, finally, in a drawer in my office at home, never actually remembering I put it there. On her birthday, I wrapped it, and grabbed the bag with the cards I bought. In my rush to get out of the store, I had grabbed the wrong one, and then forgot to buy one for our daughters to giver her. She got her present at least, so that was a relief. But then I couldn't find the Microsoft Points card and iTunes cards I bought, which were also put away so they wouldn't get lost.
