Tried new workout... ugh... ouch.

Okay, so I've been trying to get back into the workout regimen. I've been fairly consistent w/the pushups, curls some ab work and the treadmill (walking w/weighted pack). Well... anyway... my brother is still training at my old fight gym and they're now doing the Crossfit program. My brother said that all the fighters and some of my old sparring (grappling) buddies are all shredded and in top physical form. So he's impressed and has started incorporating some of the crossfit routines in his workout. He tells me about this one simple workout, close to a total body workout where you utilize dumbells.

Basically, you take two dumbells (you determine the weight, but nothing too crazy) and place them by your feet standing shoulder width apart. I used 25lbs dumbells. The routine is to squat down, pick up the dumbells and stand straight back up, sort of a dead lift then immediately squat back down and back up, but when standing back up the 2nd time, you perform a snatch and clean and then press the weights up above your head. Well, after those two squats and the snatch/pres... that's one rep. You do 50 reps to complete the routine and being the not so smart guy that I am, I did those this afternoon. Well... needless to say... my thighs are quivering and shaking when I walk and stand now. LOL! I may not be able to walk tomorrow.


Also, I mentioned earlier about Brandon Vera fighting Frank Mir, well, it's official now. It'll be on the UFC 65 card and that will put him, should he win, and I feel he will, one step closer to standing across the Octagon from Chuck Liddell. Wow... should be exciting stuff. The only thing we haven't seen and that I'm not sure of is Brandon's chin. I know his grappling is on par w/whoever and he won't be outgrappled. And his striking is thunderous, quick and precise. Stay tuned.

Ever tried the Mentos and Diet Coke thing? Well, supposedly this guy does. And he craps and spews simoultaneously after popping the mentos. Looks painful to me. LOL!

Man Crossfit is brutal. I've got a couple of guys I work with(in a general sense, they aren't in my same office) and they are into crossfit and its insane. I've been tempted a couple of times to give it a shot but I don't have the proper setup to do a lot of their workouts, though I suppose I should suck it up and pick out the ones that only require dumbells and try those. I'm afraid my cardio wouldn't stand up to it. Best cardio shape I was ever in was when I was training 2-4 days a week for a year and a half in mixed martial arts. Unfortunately that was about 4 years ago. :( Good luck with crossfit, keep me posted on what workouts you try and how you felt about them.
