I chose Blockbuster over Netflix at that time because I received two free rental coupons a month that was good for movies and video games. I used the coupons for video games. Currently Blockbuster does not offer this though my plan hasn't changed. I believe Blockbuster current gives out one coupon a week but only for movies. Actually, they might have completely stopped that since the envelopes can be used as rental coupons. I was happy with this.
Recently DeltaT sent me a free month of Netflix. I gave it a shot to try the streaming on the Xbox 360. I liked the service. I checked online and the price is cheaper than Blockbuster. That is until you add Blu-ray, then it is the same as Blockbuster. netflix adds an additional cost for Blu-ray while Blockbuster doesn't.
Netflix is much faster than Blockbuster. I typically watch movies on the weekend then send them out on Monday. With blockbuster I would get the next three on Thursday. With Netflix the movies show up on Wednesday. For me both services run out of Minneapolis, MN.
I have also tried streaming with the Xbox 360 and PS3. For those that don't know Netflix recently came to the PS3. It isn't built in yet like the 360. You need a disc that Netflix sends for free. The service will be added to the XMB early next year. Because the 360 interface is built in right now it is quicker to navigate. However, I really like what Netflix has done with the interface on the PS3 since they disn't need to make the interface fit a certain style of control. On the 360 they had to use the 360 style of navigation. On the Ps3 the full title of the movie shows up in the cover view. When you select the movie the description shows up along with a button to play the movie from begining, rate the movie, and resume. I will probably use the PS3 for Netflix. The PS3 is quiet and the 360 isn't.
However, viewing the movie with other 360 friends can be fun. Especially if you turn it into a Mystery Science Theater 3000 type of deal :)
I do have to try something with Netflix that I had a problem with Blockbuster. I tried to rent "The King of Comedy", a movie with Stephan Chow in it (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer, God of Cookery). I tried four times but they kept sending me "The Original Kings of Comedy" by Spike lee. I should see if Netflix will get it right.
FYI, first day of the new job. Oh fun.
