If you look back a couple of blog posts I explained how the server merge and F2P screwed up DCUO. Well, a couple of updates later my tune has changed. The last two updates have been good and show SOE *is* listening to the players. Update 7 brought the lightning strikes DLC. Added electricy powers, and Centra City - flash missions. The Central City content has level 30 bounties and missions. There's actually a reason for levels 30s to go back into the open world now.
With update 8 they added yet another reason for level 30s to go back into the open world and ot run other raids and alerts - crafting. For those that don't know crafting is a system to create modifiers for your equipment. The way crafting in DCUO works is you have to go out into the open world and collect exobits. You combine exobits into exobytes. There are 6 different types of exobits. You can also salvage weapons to make a material resource. The final resource is, I am not sure what it is called, but ingredients you can get form loot drops or vendors. You then get plans, either buy them or get them as drops. The plans will tell you how to combine the exobytes, materials, and other ingredients to create a mod. The mod can then be applied to a socket in your equipment. Mods have three colors. If you apply the mod to the same color socket you get a bonus on top of what the mod gives.
Basically, they brought some life back into the game. I am one tier 3 piece away from having the maximum gear. So the game has been boring for me. All I have been doing is run the latest raids to earn the right currency to get that last piece of gear. Thinking about it, if you are a new player there is an amazing amount of things to do now.
