Calling it a lan party assumes there will be video game playing. Honestly, if you go to vegas would you play video games? I wouldn't. I would check out the shows like blue man group or Penn & Teller. I would play some poker or craps. I would check out the Stratosphere. There's just so much stufff to do why would I play video games? So if we were to have a lan party in Vegas I wouldn't call it a lan party - just a party.
Chitown or Indy makes sense. Why would people go to those cities? Everyone I know that has gone to those cities went because of either family or business. Or the Indy 500. There wouldn't be the distractions of other activities taking away from the lan.
So, it depends on your goals. Do you want to play games or just get together. Some people are happy with just getting together because they can play games with the other people over the internet. However, the lan environment is completely different and some people love that.
