something other than gaming

So. I love gaming. Been into for the past couple years since I purchased my first 360. Since then I've purchased a Wii, PS3 and another 360 (had to have one for the bedroom).

But all gaming and nothing else can make for dull conversations around the dinner table with family and friends when so few of them understand the gaming drive that so many of us  on this site have.

I have decided to pick up an additional hobby. I'm going to start getting into photo album scan/repair/update. I bought a pretty cool scanner (canon 8800), have a mac and have some good photo software (CS4 and a few others - heck, even the free Google Picasa is pretty awesome when it comes to fixing photo's.

Not sure where this new hobby is going to take me, but I envision the possibilities. Extra income doing this for other people that don't have the time or inclination? Not sure. We'll see.

My first project is to scan all my parents old photo albums. I did the first one last week and the many of the pictures are fading fast. Not sure if it is the photo paper they were developed on or the crappy photo album they were put in. but i have fixed almost all the pictures, and they all look pretty good. 100 times better than the originals. I have about 20 more albums to go. By that time I should be good enough to "hand out a shingle" and try to get some business. I'll scan photo's and put them all on a DVD either in a slideshow type movie, straight TIFF format or into an iphoto library or google picasa library.

Been meaning to do the same thing for many years now. All those photo albums keep sitting there and laughing at me. Maybe one day.

Funny. I have been doing the same thing with the same scanner. I wanted to preserve the old photos before they're gone.

This is a GREAT idea!!!!! I've had some thoughts on this for some time, but never got around to getting the research done on what to use. can I PM you as I delve further into this.

TK - feel free. I'm still in the "research" phase of my efforts, but all indications show that it could be a success
