So, maybe things are looking up for a change. Amongst all the family drama that was going on over the 'festive' period, the new graphics card I'd saved money for didn't work out well. Either it was a bad build, or my old PSU screwed it up by not having enough power, but I had to return it to Dabs for a replacement. The new one arrived yesterday, and I installed it with more than a little but of trepidation.
It appears however, that I didn't need to worry at all. I re-installed the Bioshock demo, and found that the card runs the game just fine with almost every setting on High. I swear to God that I could have wept with joy last night. I tested Half Life 2 and Portal , and they run fine as well. WoW looks stunning - with the settings maxed out, I'm getting higher frame rates than I ever have in the past.
I swung by Game this morning and spent the last of my Christmas money on a shiny copy of Bioshock - I would have grabbed a collector's edition, but there's no chance of getting one of them this late in the game. I have the next fortnight off, so from Monday morning I will be descending into the depths of Rapture - I may be some time.
P.S. I do have more family drama to talk about, but I think we could all do with a break from that.
Edit: Blog pic still seems to be wonky, not the end of the world I suppose.
