Shared on Fri, 05/29/2009 - 03:58Still feeling kind of burnt out just now. I've done no writing for Massively for weeks now, and haven't felt much more than the passing desire to do so. Work is still just as crappy as ever, but I'm not going to whine about it, as that really isn't going to change anything.
I had some good news yesterday however, in that I finally got a replay back from Strathclyde University regarding my qualifications for the Journalism and Creative Writing degree. Unfortunately, my qualifications aren't enough to allow me to apply straight off, however they did point me in the direction of a part-time course specifically designed to allow mature students like myself, who have been out of formal education for a while, to gain the appropriate qualifications.
It's a part-time, one Monday a week course that lasts 25 weeks, and starts in September. The only problem there is that it means I'll have to leave work early on Mondays to make it through to Glasgow from Edinburgh, without telling my manager exactly why. That might take a bit of doing, but I'm sure I can come up with something.
Semi-related to the above, I think I'm going to enter a short-story competition. If you're a fan of Games Workshop at all, you probably know about Black Library, their book/novel/fiction publishing arm. They're hosting a competition for their new short-story compilation book, and have thrown the doors open to submissions, with one lucky writer having a story published in the book. I've got a fairly solid idea - I think - so I'm going to try and work on it over the weekend and see if I can't get a submission of to them.
Wish me luck.
