Gamer/Dad

As a father of four children under 3 I don't have a lot of spare time. You can see this in the frequency that I post.

I do manage to spend a little time everyday playing a game of some kind. I have been tinkering with Xbox Live Arcade games lately now that I have earned almost all the offline achievements for Smackdown v. Raw 2007.

I'd like to think I would be able to introduce my kids to video games at some point, but if my oldest is any indication they will be more likely into offline activities. Which is great, I am looking forward to not having to pry them away from the TV to get them to go out and play.

Question to you dads out there; how do you maintain your video game involvement while being a dad at the same time?

I'm a Mom on mat leave, so I know what you are saying! It's really hard to play. I play games that you can pick up and drop off easily. Ones where you can save at any point etc. My husband is a fantastic guy and takes our daughter so that I can have me time. Mind you with 3 under 3, that would be difficult. Let me know how you do!

This may seem obvious, but kids first, then games. Find something for the kid to do while you play or just forget about playing. An unoccupied kid will make gaming impossible - so keep them happy, then game.

When my daughter goes to bed I play, but that also means late nights and little sleep.

Kids to bed, I hit the 360. Yes it does cut into the sleep but you have to make sacrifices. Plus mine are older (3 and 5) so it is a little easier. During the day they play on the old xbox and the PS2 while I get in a game or two of the less graphic games. I break out the bloody stuff after they go to sleep.

Im a mom, but same thing. (3.5 under 6) I find games they like to watch like fable or Viva Pinata, then play those when they are awake. then play the other stuff after bedtime (we are pretty strict about a 7.30 bedtime at our house) depending on how little yours are you could get something like a baby bjorn and wear one while you game. You might have to stand up and bounce a little, but for something like halo its do able. So four under three? got any multiples in there or just "Irish twins"

LadyisRed: I have a two year old and 5 month old triplets (2 boys and 1 girl). I am already sleep deprived helping my wife taking care of the kids so I can't go without anymore sleep. Gaming in small doses at night seems to be working ok. It makes it hard to catch up with people playing online though.
