Now, I'm fairly certain that odd dreams regularly occur in my life but normally my ability to hold onto said dreams remains suspect, leaving countless memories behind on my struggle up through the sleep layer into a semi-consciousness (only fully awakened by a large cup of java and the insistent honking of drivers more awake than me sitting behind me at the light). Uniquely this morning, the alarm screamed through these layers and dragged me out quicker than my ability to forget. Therefore, I captured some sharp moments from the dream - fortunately or unfortunately.
I recall walking into a room where dark pools of water swirled - some type of intake, I'm sure, normally covered with metal grates. A child - maybe eight - gleefully playing in the dimly lit room, jumping into the water, while a man yelled out. Just then, a smaller child - and words will fail me, here - a smaller child, appearing to be around 2 years old yet having the defined features of a child several years older - someone jumps into the water and the man (who I assume is the father) promptly cries out and jumps in after the child. Yet, at that instant, I am the man - I'm struggling in the cold, churning water as I frantically search for the child - my child. I find him! Grab him! Gasp up for air and pull him out, quickly searching out his cold blue face for life before I run for help, clutching the lifeless body in my arms. I scream out for someone - a doctor! - in the crowded restaurant I suddenly find myself in, panicking in the blankless stares of restuarant patrons and waiters before I spot the resident doctor checking a patient by the door (yeah, I know that makes no sense now in the bright of day, but stay with me). I rudely butt in line with the child extended before me, then as the doctor instantly leaps into action, I turn and grab the closest waiter who weighs in at 300 pounds of muscle and easily exceeds six feet, and promptly berate him on his refusal to act when I cried out initially.
And then the alarm sounded...
