Finding a Job

Well, it's that time.  It's January 2008, and it's time to find a job!

Long story short (relatively), I work for Perot Systems which is an IT consulting company founded by Ross Perot.  They hired me to work specifically on a health care industry account for a large corporation which had contracted with PS shortly before I started.  During the period of transitioning support, I had the opportunity to work with many customers and enjoyed the workload.  Suddenly, though, the company was purchased by another company.  The new company had a very different business model that did not include outsourcing, instead choosing to handle all IT functions in house.  They chose to buy out the contract with Perot (through no fault of PS), so I am quickly out of a job.

No worries though - I'm a man of great skill and accomplishment.  Finding a new job brings me no worry.  Thinking along the lines of long term goals ensures a period of personal reflection, though.  Where do I see myself in 10 years?  20?  30?  How can I combine my skill set into the perfect job situation?  What financial throughput will maintain the correct lifestyle for my life (with careful consideration to my predilection towards expensive technological hobbies)?

Breaking it down, I think through my job history.  As a 19 year-old, I did taxes at Jackson Hewitt and I waited tables, then moving into sales before becoming a computer support person.  The areas of excellence became apparant as analytical ability, customer service skills and great troubleshooting ability.  So, I combine those skillsets with my industry experience in outsourcing, insurance, healthcare, accounting and service industries.  Adding them all up and tossing them in a blender along with my love of data (spreadsheets are a comfort food for me), I begin matching up my style with potential jobs.

What does the future hold?  Not sure yet!  It seems from my own description that a job working with people in a wide variety of industries while working with a lot of data seems perfect.  Would that be an analyst position?  Maybe an IT recruiter?  These questions rattle around my brain...
