HD-DVD Players

Yes, I know there's still a debate about the whole HD-DVD vs Blue-Ray thing (format wars - fun, huh?), but I gotta tell you, I have an HD-DVD player and I love it!  The movie quality difference is stunning.  My personal recommendation is to grab a hd dvd player, and then just rent HD-DVDs!  Yup, rent them

I use Netflix (I used to use Blockbuster Online, but they didn't rent HD-DVDs) and they have a cool option where you can set your preferences to prefer HD-DVDs for movies in your queue.  Whenever an item comes up in your queue that is available on HD-DVD, you get it in that format instead of just standard definition dvd.

I know someone will argue that with the format war, it's pointless to get involved in something like this.  But, an hd dvd player isn't that expensive for the quality you get in return.  Think about it from an entertainment perspective.  Even if HD-DVD goes away in a year, all the movies made up to that point in HD-DVD format would be playable on your hd dvd player, and the quality is amazing.  Let me tell you, the difference in watching Shrek 3 on my hd dvd player versus watching it in standard def was worth an extra few bucks alone.  Wize has a bunch of players with reviews available at http://wize.com/dvd-players/DVD+Type!HD-DVD*776 - I'm telling you, it's worth it!

480p versus 1080p?  No Contest!!!!!!

I totally forgot to mention Netflix unlimited Internet Streaming - I caught up on the few episodes of The Office I had missed using that (included in my membership - sweet!) - good point, Crane!

Blockbuster does have HD DVD's online under collections. Blu-Ray has it's own section I believe.

I'm doing the same thing Tait, and I love it. I got one of the HD-A2 players from Wal-Mart just prior to Thanksgiving for only $99. At that price it was only about $20 more than an upconverting DVD player. At that price I didn't give a damn if HD-DVD won the format war or not. My regular DVDs now look much better than they did before and the rented HD-DVDs really do look incredible. Some of the city flyover shots in Bourne Ultimatum just made my jaw drop. And oh yeah, Netflix RAWKS! I've been a member for more than 5 years and I would cut off my cell phone service before I dropped Netflix. I pay $3 LESS now than I did when I signed up and now I get high-def movies and unlimited internet streaming. Holy crap, who the hell does NOT have this service by now?
