Shared on Sun, 02/10/2008 - 11:53My Saturday couldn't have been better. Quick summation of my day in Ft. Worth, TX:
- * Chik-Fil-A breakfast
- * Starbucks coffee
- * Rahr & Sons Brewery Tour & Tasting plus amazing Longoria's barbecue
- * Tobacco Lane wine tasting and Cigar enjoying (I smoked an A. Fuente Opus X)
- * Mexican Food & Margaritas at Cabo Grande (Tex-Mex)
- * Monte Montgomery (Austin Music Awards winner of "Best Accoustic Guitar Player" for 7 straight years) at McDavid Studio
- * Schakolad Chocolate (I enjoyed a chocolate covered Oreo)
Basically, I woke up and drove out to Scot's house - we jumped in the car and drove to Rahr & Sons Brewery which is just south of downtown Ft. Worth. We went for a Meetup.com group (Pass Me A Beer) brewery tour (done once a week). Now, we somehow missed the actual tour, but the hundreds of people seemed to enjoy the beer tastings (My BOCK was EXCELLENT) and I definitely enjoyed the BBQ that a local restaurant brought in to sell.
We then went downtown and hit Tobacco Lane. We went in there for cigars, but were surprised to find a wine store attached to the humidor. We promptly enjoyed some samples, and Scot procured several bottles including a 20 year port that I can't wait to enjoy later. We then proceeded to the bar type chairs with cigars in hand, relaxing while drawing in the heady smoke from our fine A. Fuente cigars. Right after that, we walked down the street to Cabo Grande where we enjoyed an incredibly well structured meal of high class Mexican food (this aint no On the Border, folks!) before continuing on in Sundance Square to McDavid Studio to enjoy the Monte Montgomery concert.
Monte was amazing - his 3 man band explores music completely, bringing the audience into the private minds of true musical exploration. Dissonance and quick tempo changes (sometimes layered within the 3) accompanied this exploration which I thoroughly enjoyed, all with the top layer of musical genius exhibited by Monte's accoustic guitar prowess (one of, if not "the", best in the country). Simply Amazing.
I'll include 2 pictures snapped on my iPhone below, and a link to the photos from the brewery taken on a Nikon:
