Pizza isn't Pizza

I think it's weird how food places treat a food item as the same as anywhere else by name. I mean, if you go to Taco Bell, you can order an "enchilada". But, you can also get an "enchilada" at Luna de Noche or El Fenix. I guarantee (bolded for your pleasure) that an "enchilada" is NOT the same at El Fenix as it is at Taco Bell. If it is, you need to tip the people at Taco Bell (or slap the cook at El Fenix - your call).

We take it for granted that our wine is not treated this way, but don't demand the same from our food. What if you just ordered "wine" at a restaurant and sometimes they brought you a young, sharp zin and sometimes a sweet, cold blush, etc? I love wine, myself, but only specific types. I don't want your whites or your blushes - pour those down the drain as far as I'm concerned. I want to know what year it is, what the tannins are like, if it's full-bodied, what oaks it was aged in, etc...

So, treat my pizza like that cause pizza aint pizza. Dominos pepperoni is NOT the same as a thin crust Papa Johns pepperoni. This would be a fun menu:

2006 Papa Johns, thin crust, pepperoni: cow's milk mozzarella, imported italian pepperoni, cooked through conveyer convection oven at 450, served w/ spice package. Excellent finish with hints of cherry and oak.

2006 Dominos, thick crust, pepperoni: string cheese, french pepperoni, cooked on bunsen burner. Up front bold taste with cardboard finish.

Whatever.

papa johns pizza is NOT pizza... Tait, if you TRULY love pizza, come on down to NYC. I'll personally take you to the 3 best pizza parlors you've ever imagined

Gatsu wants pizza and I want El Fenix. They have the BEST damn enchiladas available in the entire world as far as I'm concerned. Tait, you gonna back me on this one?

I don't think the pizza chains really want you to know the "fine" ingredients and craftsmanship put into their products. :lol:

You can't beat real NY style thin crust. Come to the east coast LAN and we can find you some.

I have to agree. Growing up in the South I never knew what pizza was until I moved to New Jersey. The pizza up here is soooo superior. There is a place in Staten Island called Good Fellas. They are the only Americans to finish in the top 3 in the International Pizza competition in Italy. They have this vodka sauce with fresh mozzerella that is to die for.

You're all wrong. I'll tell you a story that will tell you what the best pizza is. I used to make big sheet pizzas for my employees back when I was manager in a restaurant. Sometimes, I'd ask someone if they wanted pizza and they'd reply "What kind?" I would always reply with "the Free Kind." That my friends, is the best pizza. The Free Kind. Now, if that Free pizza happens to be from Giordanos in Chicago, well then, that's even better.

Ok now the question last nigh tmakes more since...lol I have only had Papa Johns once and it was GREAT. But I like home made BBQ Chicken Pizza mmm mmm good!!!
