My lesson for the week - a lesson that I've toyed with for awhile, but really hit home just this week - is to "Trust Your Gut".

The thing is, whenever I meet a new person and start to develop a friendship/relationship/partnership/whatevership, I get a gut feeling for the future.  Recently, I had that happen and yet I overlooked it again - why?  Because of what the person said.  For some reason, I tend to take people at face value on what they verbally say and squash down my "gut feel" figuring that people really know themselves and speak honestly.  Fact is, though, over and over and over again this has proven to not pan out in the long run.  If someone says they are a positive, life affirming person but you see negativity and selfishness in their life, they are what they are - they aren't what they say.  So, what I learned is that I have to Trust My Gut, no matter what.  It never steers me wrong.  Even if it seems to cost me something up front to trust my gut, the long term should be better.

Sometimes we can know people aren't what they say they are but yet still have a reltionship with them. Sometimes even helping them to become the person they hope to be. you might even get to a point where they can admit their short comings and seek your input. I doubt you'll find too many people who up front are just going to say "Hi, I'm selfish and have trust issues, how about you?" :)

thats not bad advice to live by. the trick for me is not saying what my gut feeling is out loud. "I think that you're full of shit ma'am"

I think a lot of people describe themselves as the person they WANT to be, not necessarily the person that they ARE. and always trust your gut, man. Always.

I think it's more then just alot of people JC. I think all of us describe ourselves as better then what we really are. That's human nature.
