I tried - I so valiantly tried. Really, I wanted to like this OS by Microsoft so I could proudly boast to my friends that Vista is like a Mac with robust audio/video support. And, it really is a great deal better in that regard than previous iterations. If only my computer didn't keep crashing.
*sigh*
Yeah, it's a pretty bad thing when the computer just reboots itself every 45 minutes, which it started doing last night. This was after other issues including frequent Internet Explorer lockups (which began almost immediately after I got the machine). Now, this isn't some cobbled together system I have - I purchased a Quad Core brand spanking new machine just a few months ago with a fresh install of Vista Home Edition Some Other Words That Designate Which of Five Billion Versions There Are At Different Price Points. Problems began quickly, and have only become worse despite my best efforts and lengthy counseling sessions.
With my technical background, the computer should've been in good hands. But, what do you do with the complexity of Vista errors with no known solutions? For example, I can't run Windows Update - I get a generic error that, in XP days, could easily be solved by stopping Update services, deleting the data store, and restarting update Services. Does this work in Vista? Nope. Are there any known solutions for this error in Microsoft Knowledgebase? Nope.
Vista has a great tracking mechanism for "problems" - I have 60 "problems" listed there, and when I click on the button to go out and find solutions, I can report that "no solutions found". Lovely. That's like taking your car in to a mechanic and they inform you that your car is broken, won't drive well and they found all kinds of problems. But, they don't know how to fix it. They smile while they say it, then try to get you to "upgrade" to Car Ultimate Edition, and continually tell you how great your car is. But, the truth is, you miss your old car - it was pretty fast and reliable, and had a cooler name. Vista sounds like a feminine hygiene product. XP sounds like a sports car.
I'm going back to my old car.
