My crotchety old father wants a PS3???

My old man has never looked highly upon video games. Even when I was a kid and he bought us a Sega Master System, he did so grudgingly.

And today, at seventy-two years of age, he still claims to feel the same way. "I don't know why you waste your time with that stuff," he said to me recently. "Video games are for kids. It's embarrassing."

But over the holidays, he started asking question about Blu Ray players. I told him what I know, completely avoiding the PS3 because I figured he's just dismiss it as a gaming device. THEN he tells me that...get this...HE WENT TO A GAMESTOP and was asking questions about the PS3! He went on to say that he seriously considered buying a PS3. But when he looked at "the wall of games" all he saw were "games where you shoot other people." This really put him off.

I feel like we made significant progress, but I don't want to let him cool on the idea of a PS3. So I ask you...

Can anyone recommend some high-quality PS3 games that really showcase the system but don't have anything to do with shooting people? In fact, the less violent the better. I only own an XBox 360 and a Wii, so my PS3 knowledge is sorely lacking.

Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

-Mark

Uncharted 2 was definately a great game but did involve a lot of shooting. Most sports and racing games would fit your needs. Batman:AA and Infamous would also be good titles but may be a little more violent than your looking for.

@ekattan - I guess you missed the whole "not shooting people", eh? :D If you want to talk the ying to a FPS yang, Flower is about as mello, coma-inducing calm as it comes, yet is remarkably fun. There is also Little Big Planet, which while it seems it's geared for kids, if you start to get into the art/style, you can appreciate it. As violent as it gets is whacking someone with a frying pan.

I'm with balek on this one.... Flowers is very mello and graphically very pleaseing... Little big planet is a riot and you can create your own levels.... Both great games... Racing games would work also depending on what he is into.

I clicked so I could also recommend Little Big Planet. It was the first game I bought for the PS3 and I still play it, it's great for every level of gamer.

Lemmings. My Father played it for hours on NES.
