Well, with the aid of my good friend Avatrix , with whom I joined forces on the GOW Last Day campaign, I headed out today to locate a tron-related drop in Boston based on information gathered from the Flynn Lives Homepage.
As I raced to the designated drop point, I called Avatrix on the phone to see if he was on his way as well. He said he was on the designated street, but could not locate the correct address. He also mentioned that he forget to grab the password, which was "cheat code", which I luckily remembers. We knew we were looking for someone in a Flynn Lives T-shirt, so Avatrix ducked into an Irish bar (go figure, it IS Boston) and asked some questions while I circled the block in my car (parking is horrendous in this section of Boston). No luck. I hung up and continued to circle the block hoping to see our contact.
As I was driving back down the street, I saw Avatrix, soaking wet as the rain was coming down in Beantown today, running toward me. He yelled that he was on the phone getting directions to the drop and told me to meet him a block over on Hanover St. Off he went while I tried to figure out how to navigate back in the direction he was headed amid a confluence of one-way streets.
As I rounded the corner I got another call from Avatrix with the good news that he had found the drop. He met met at the next corner and we pulled into a "No Parking" zone to check out the goods. While I kept an eye out for the notorious Boston Ticket Squad, Avatrix filled me in on what had happened between our phone calls. After being unable to locate the correct address for the meetup, he had gone back into the bar to ask about the odd missing address and one of the bar employees told him to check out a Pizza joint nearby. When Avatrix went into the restaurant, he saw a girl in a Flynn Lives T-shirt reading a book. She gave him a cell phone and told him to wait for a call. Right before I saw him on the street making a bee-line for Hanover St, he had received a call and was told the location of the drop, which was behind a park bench in the Rose Kennedy Greenway, which covers the infamous Big Dig project.
So what did Avatrix find?
Inside several baggies was an old 1980's style velcro wallet.
Inside the wallet were two Flynn's Arcade tokens, 3 collectable trading cards from 1981 and two newspaper clippings with information about the fictional character Kevin Flynn played by Jeff Bridges in both the original film and the upcoming sequel.
Each card had a code associated with it, which when entered into the Zero Hour page on the Flynn Lives web site, revealed one of 66 pictures of the trading cards included in the various drops around the world.
When you click on one of these cards, if flips to reveal a tile portion of a much larger picture. Once most of the tiles had been revealed, the picture bit below the picture field changed and clicking on that linked to the full sized, hi-res photo that is at the top of this blog. Below the photo is a listing of five "Exclusive Limited Events" along with details on how to snag tickets for these events tomorrow.
