Balek's Movie Review™ - Get Smart

Remakes of old movies or TV shows always make me nervous.  Doubly so when the original was what many would consider a classic.  We have seen it happen time and time again when a directors desire to relive their childhood favorites falls apart as they mix in the latest and greatest in special effects, the wrong cast, or just make changes all together with the source material.  However, every now and then, we're treated to a situation when it's done right.  Thankfully, the resurrection of Maxwell Smart onto the big screen was done with reverence and admiration to the 60s television classic, m

"Nice beaver!"

Of course, we must play tribute to the original...

Balek's Movie Review™ - The Duchess

Type casting can be a good thing, or a bad thing, for an actor or actress. On one hand, it acknowledges a person's strength in a particular role, and makes it more likely that they have work anytime a movie comes out in that genre or setting. However, on the flip side, it can also make it so that is the ONLY type of role that person gets in a movie. In my opinion, that negative far outweighs the positive.

New Years Eve Dos and Don'ts

DO invite plenty of friends to your party. Nothing beats ringing in the New Year with a houseful of friends and/or family.
DON'T invite people who are obsessed with topics that you frankly don't care about on New Years Eve, e.g. the economy, the housing market, Andy Reid's fucked up kids, ect. etc. etc.

DO ensure you have plenty of beer, wine, or other libations. At $13.99 a case, Bud Light was the winner at my house.
DON'T fill half of your house with non-drinkers. Talk about a buzz kill!

Balek's Movie Review™ - The Lake House

Every now and then a guy has to make a concession. Whether it’s missing out on one of those Sunday football games, to gracefully accepting directions while driving, we sway on our likes and desires to accommodate the ones we love. The movies we watch is another example, and gave the birth of the ‘chick flick’. For those few who don’t know, the ‘chick flick’ is the movie made specifically for those without the Y-chromosome, usually restricted to the drama or romantic comedy genre, and make women in our lives go gooey.
