Karma

Believe in it?  Think it's a load of hogwash and things just happen as they happen?  For me, I'm probably somewhere in between.  Do I have any proof that Karma exists?  Of course not.  But I don't think it's bad to think that if you treat people well, and live up to a solid standard that you want to, then at some point in time - either known or unknown to you - it will come around to your benefit.

Balek's Movie Review™ - Twelve O'clock High

Here's a blast from the past - and when I say past, I mean circa 1949 to get us Twelve O'clock High staring Gregory Peck.  Flipping through the channels late this morning found it playing on the FOX movie channel.  This isn't the first time I've seen the movie - it was mandatory viewing for the Leadership class I took as part of my M.B.A.  If that's not enough, the U.S.

Spore - Potential, but at what cost?

I'm sure most of the crowd here has heard of Spore, the next big thing to come out of the mind of Will Wright at Maxis, best known for the plague on this earth known as The Sims.  Spore is being touted as a massive single player online game, where you play God in the development of creatures from the cellular level all the way up to full blown space-faring civilizations.  Being a biologist by education, the thought of a game with evolution, genetics, and whatnot at the core sounds very appealing.  I'm sure it will be basic enough to be gr

Animal Kingdom's Short Bus

Ok, last blog had a kickass example of what the animal kingdom can give us. This time, let's dedicate the blog to an elephant that should have been killed by it's mother at birth. Although, I suppose there's a need for an elephant capable of performing a colonoscopy on its fellow herdmates.
