over what? dmrs? ars? or any of the 1-shot weapons in halo 4?
No, good question. Over the default starting weapon (AR, SMG), or, at least, as we know them today.
I've always been a proponent for BR starts, or any skill-based medium to long range weapon starts. Anyone remember AR starts on Valhalla? Brutal. You were at a distinct disadvantage against those that were able to acquire BR's. Even on the smaller H3 maps, I still believed BR starts worked better than ar/pistol.
Personally, I have always liked the Map Default (usually AR) starts. I see that done correctly, it forces map movement and team planning. Unfortunately AR starts don't work for all maps. Once a commanding team controls access to open area BR/Power Weapon spawns then the opposing team has to hunker down or just run out in the open and die. I do like slower paced games and a bit of sneakiness but a team in the lead does not have to chase you and so the pace can get too slow.
At least with Halo 4, BR/DMR starts will be mostly up to the individual player. It seems like the maps will have fewer weapons on them and of course the power weapons have a randomness we've not experienced before. I see this being a dream come true for a lot of players. No more, "can we have BR start please".
Assuming we are talking about in H4 AND without knowing if the AR/Supressor (I think that is it) is getting a nerf I would like to start with a BR/DMR. Even is the AR/Supressor is not getting nerfed from what we have seen.
I like to be able to have the medium-ish type of range and know my shots should land if my reticle is red and on the bad guy (unlike in H3 or being effected by bloom in Reach).
If we were playing in 20x20 foot box all the time, then yeah I would take AR/Sup as the starting weapon.
Having it as a secondary weapon (AR) is a nice thing ass well, especially if it does not get a launch nerf.
i guess in answer to your question, the BR(DMR) is the most versatile UNSC weapon. starting with anything else is silly, even on a map like Countdown. i like the AR as a secondary, but i'd still drop it for a Magnum.
the magnum out performs the AR at short range if you can hit your target and still carries higher damage for a beat down.
i also think you're trolling.

What I like about the loadouts (from what I've seen) it that gone are the days of AR vs. BR/DMR starts. Once unlocked, we can make our own custom loadouts with the weapons we want to use. Granted, there will probably still be these default loadouts designed by 343 to be "map specific", but I look forward to being able to have excactly the weapons I want to use at start.

This to me is one of the cool things about CoD and now Halo 4. You get to pick whatever starting weapons that you want.
However, I actually like AR/Magnum starts because I feel like I'm better at using the Magnum than most other players so that gives me an advantage. I'm also a player who knows where all of the weapons are on a map, so I know just where to go to get the weapons that I want. At the same time, I like seeing Timmy run around with an AR.
What people don't realize about the reach pistol is that the hitbox for a "headshot" is a bit larger, and as such the "sweet spot" seems to be the neck/clavicle area for sure hits.

DMR>Carbine>BR>Pistol>AR.
If this is the case with the H4 pistol, and if it's still a 4-5 shot kill, the flag carrier may not be so defenseless. I like this.

I think I recall them stating that the pistol while carrying the flag isn't as powerful as the regular pistol. I'll see if I can find the quote.

Actually I think it's the other way around.
From last week's bulletin:
Quote:
...The moment you pick up the flag, you'll hold the flag in your left hand and draw a Magnum. The Magnum allows you to defend yourself in combat and joust other flag carriers. We're still working with the exact tuning of the flag carrier's Magnum, but we're hoping to give the flag carrier a slight damage boost...

I think you are right, given that the Flagnum has unlimited ammo, makes sense to tone it down a bit. I hope it's just tweaked damage and nothing like increased recoil.

If the Reach pistol had 10 bullets I think it would have been alot of peoples go to weapon in close quaters, but all to often you had to get that headshot on the 7-8 bullet and if you miss the AR wins.

i'd rather have a PP and a Magnum than an AR.

All hail Cortana?
No, just her underwear. Also, may her bra be as padded as wamam's post count.
BR or DMR starts for sure.
...and boring, unless it's custom games shenanigans.
I used to favor the Reach magnum over the AR until I realized the the former might be the least accurate "precision" weapon in all of Halo.
If the pistol was a little better then I would like the pistol/AR start and BRs as pick ups, but I hate being in a fire fight with a weaker weapon.
weaker than the BR or the AR? i would strongly disagreet the AR is stronger than the pistol. if someone is in radar range, the pistol is a beast.
Splockets FTW.
with 16 nades just for good measure.
Only if they're spike grenades.
I miss the *fleshy crunch* sound when you stuck someone with a spike.
yes, indeed. my favorite of all four nades.
Those did make a pretty satisfying "thwack" when they hit meat.
Yeah I always thought they should of used that sound or something more squishy or squashy for the Hammer.

Well, I knew there was some sort of damage difference. lol
