Mechromancer ahead of schedule
Mechromancer ahead of schedule
Good news. I personally thought 60 days after game launch for it was a rediculous amount of time to develop a single character DLC pack. Especially since they'll have had 30 days pre-launch to start working on it.
Anyways,Randy says the Mechromancer is ahead of schedule
The Mechromancer, a fifth playable class free in pre-orders of Borderlands 2, was initially announced to launch at least 60 days after the full game drops on September 18. Gearbox, apparently, is ahead of schedule.
"We're going to beat that estimate," producer Randy Varnell tells Joystiq at Gamescom. He is unable to specify a new release window for the new character, but he is confident the team can complete its build faster than previously thought. Gearbox finished Borderlands 2 and sent it off to certification in July, which is when it began focusing on the Mechromancer herself.

That's great. Looking forward to that one, a different style than we're used to
Official:
October 16th...hrmm...I feel a sick day coming my way in the near future.
I thought it came out Sept. 18th Mech should have been in it already IMO. I was surprised when they first stated only the same 4 classes.
Except they're not the same. The commando is pretty similar, but the other 3 are variations on what was there. Zero the Assassin is a mix of Lilith and Mordecai, with the ability to go invisible and skill tree bonuses for sniping.
The game went gold about a month ago, now. Including the mechromancer would have either rushed the production or pushed the release date back.
I'm extremely happy they didnt have to rush production. I can def wait a month for another character. I'll still be working on my main character at that time anyway.
From the looks of B2, it seems AMAZING! Lots of new monsters, new grenade add-ons, new aweosme lands I cant wait to play some Coop on it.
I don't understand why its worth $10? I don't have to worry as I pre-ordered, but had I not, $10 for one playable class does not a sound investment make.
I don't think any game is much of an "investment". The way I look at it is how many hours of enjoyment do I get out of the money I spent? If I get invested in the Borderlands universe I could see sinking a bunch of time into it. Killing bad guys in different ways could be lots of fun. At that point if I play her for 4-5 hours I feel like I got my money's worth. Although I did preorder and it will be free ;-)
I think tht is one thing that keeps me playing ME3 COOP, getting to play dfferent toons with different kits. So to have 5 choices vs 4 just gives the player that much more variety to enjoy the game.
Yeah, I have never seen much point in replaying games after I have gone through the story. I also do not rewatch movies or re-read books. What is the point? However if BL2 is anything like BL then it is more about the LOOT and killing enemies with friends. The plot almost seemed like an afterthought. If you asked me about it, all I can remember is that you were trying to open some vault and there was a big boss you had to kill. Other than that it was just a bunch of bad guys and fun cutscenes with ridiculously cool NPC characters.
I CAN"T WAIT!
I'd pay the 10 bucks Im sure but it wouldnt be when it first came out. Also if I dont have the mech DLC and I host a COOP game, does that mean no Mech characters can enter my game?
No doubt you'l be able to play with others even if you or they don't have the mech dlc.
As for the $10 for a new toon. I would say it is worth it for the simple fact it is a whole new way to play the game. Interactions with npcs may vary a little and there will be it's own voice acting and new skill trees and such. I hope the mechromancer is a success for them and 4 to 6 months down the line they are able to bring in another type of class to help keep the game feeiling fresh.
Ya, i dunno.... I personally probably would not pay $10 for a single character. I'm not the type of person who plays these types of games and has to pay thru it once for every character and max them out. I just don't find enjoyment in doing that personally. Even though I'm getting the mechromancer free, i most likely won't play as her because it'll mean restarting the game again a month later. I'm just not that type of gamer. I know there will be plenty of people though who will max out all the characters including the mechromancer whether they get her free or have to pay for her. I can't see doing that though at this point in time, but there have been rare occasions where I have replayed the game from scratch as multiple characters, Mass Effect 1 was the last time i can remember doing such a thing.
Its not so much maxing out characters as it is I tend to have some friends who have a more limited schedule then others and I run different toons with the varied groups so its not too much of the same thing.
Ya that's actually not a bad idea so you're not going into their game all over powered . Though kicking ass in a weaker hosts game is good for stroking the ego lol
It might not be. They may just be trying to encourage folks to preorder. “Preorder and you get $10 of additional content for FREE !!” Kinda like buying Ginsu knives, “that’s not all! By acting now we’ll throw in a Popiel Pocket Fisherman and a case of ShamWows for no additional cost” Any they sell at $10 may be $gravy$.
I like this method better than some of the EA Project $10. They're not exactly holding content back, not crippling the game in some way if you buy it used.
Any word on a workable skill tree like they did with the other characters?
