Eredon Terrace WvWvW
Eredon Terrace WvWvW
So I transferred to this server on Saturday out of frustration with GoM. I picked it mainly because it was one of the few servers that wasn't full at the time and it was among the higher ranked servers. I gotta say this server does WvW right. It has been an absolute blast every time I've logged on. So far I haven't waited in queue for more than 15-20 minutes during peak hours. Usually I can get into a Borderlands map instantly or almost instantly then get into EB minutes later.
Every time I'm in WvW here there are huge guilds represented and several Commanders issuing orders. I got an invite to a massive WvW guild called Ruin that has hundreds of players online at a time and are in WvW constantly.
The difference between how things go down on GoM and here are huge. On GoM it was almost always just zerg pushing against zerg until one falls back. We'd capture a keep just to abandon it and rush off after the red names. On ET they have a plan for taking things. They'll assault supply camps and hold them, building arrow carts and ballista to keep enemies from re-taking them. They set up trebs and pound keeps until they run out of supplies and the walls crumble, then we rush in and massacre everyone. When they take a keep they upgrade it and defend it. Right now ET controls like 75% of all the WvW maps.
WvW is crazy fun when it actually plays the way it was meant to be played and you're on a server that doesn't eat balls. Last night was awesome just spending an hour holding a supply camp against 2 to 1 odds for an hour until we drained Durios's supplies and brought her down.
Maybe the best part is how bad we are raping Crystal Desert right now. We are doing to them what they did to GoM the other week. Last night we were spawn camping them in their own Borderlands and I loved every minute of it.
Anyway, I fully recommned making a transfer to ET if you wanna WvW in this game. You can join a new guild and still stay in BnW.
I might give it a shot. Right now I've been focusing on WvW and sPvP.
hmmmm. sounds very promising.
Give it a try, you can always transfer back after 24 hours.
Ok, made the transfer. I'd like to see what it's like not getting shit on in WvW.
So, do we hook up with another guild or create a new on on ET?
I accepted the invite I got from [ruin] yesterday and they have a ton of guild perks so I'm kinda ok just running with them and staying in BnW.
Cool, can you get us rejects in?
They've been openly recruitiung in WvW, if you see them just send a whisper and I'm sure you'll get in. The guild leader I believe is a guy named Archaos who seems to be almost always online and in WvW. There's like 2 guilds, one named Ruin and another named ruin, but I believe they are the same. Maybe just the first one filled up already.
If no luck I can ask them to invite you when I'm online later tonight.
I logged in briefly to see the scores today. Yikes, we've been ahead since the start but not by that much. I think CD may have given up after the pounding they took yesterday. Surprised that IoJ is lagging behind, they've been really strong so far and have been putting up a great fight.
We'll see if this works out. The ET wiped everyone off the one borderlands map I was on. They held nothing, EB took about 30-45 to pop. that was at 3:30 pm EST. I'm not sure about this server if the queues are long and the WvW dead. I'll give it some time and see.
The queues weren't too bad at night. Got in a few Borderlands instantly, EB did pop in about half an hour. So not bad. And you weren't kidding, this server has it's shit in order. So much communication and organization.
I wouldn't mind staying here.
Finished out the night almost taking a garrison. Some crazy fighting and some excellent teamwork.
It was a little slow during the day today due to us dominating so much but things really picked up tonight. Both CD and IoJ really came back at us with a vengeance and there was some great PvP going on in EB and CD Borderlands.
I forget which Borderlands I was on. Had the EB queue pop but the action and organization where I was at was pretty solid, so I stayed. Only problem that I saw was a "commander" came on and "took" over for the one guy that was coordinating all the attacks. That led to some confusion and we didn't take the garrison when I think we should of.
Regardless of that nonsense, I loved it. So much team work going on. I think I'll be fine here. GoM is perma-fucked since it's labeled as a hacking server and we haven't won anything since they moved to a weekly reset.
Lala, I tried to get you a guild invite to [ruin] last night but I don't think anyone noticed me asking. When there's 100+ guild members online the guild chat flows too fast to read and I think pretty much everyone WvWing is using Teamspeak to communicate and ignoring the chat feed. Try "standing down" from BnW when you're in WvW so you have no guild tag after your name and you'll probably just get an invite, that's all I did to get one. Or give 'em a whisper when they do their recruitment annoucement. I may not be online today or tonight, have to catch up on some work.
Continued dominance tonight. Several Garison and Keeps were claimed by us. And they give out a shit ton of Karma. I'm just a few hunderd shy of a Karma item (42,000). I need to pust some thought into what I want.
Next week will be the true test as we move back up with the other 2 top teir servers.
I too moved over. The WvW on ET is so much better than GoM.
I wish everyone would put the brakes on transferring servers. I know things suck on Gate of Madness right now, but you know what they say about 'the grass is always greener on the other side.' Eredon Terrace is winning at the moment, and communication is really good (read: organized), but that could be driven by a specific guild, or two, and they could transfer tomorrow. Or, ET could keep winning, climb the ladder, compete against two dynamite servers, and fail spectacularly. After which, everyone says ET sucks and they all migrate somewhere else. Hell, they could migrate to GoM.
Right now, things are so unbalanced because transfers are free and the lock out window is only 24 hours. If Server A is winning on Monday, people transfer to Server A and by Wednesday the scales tip even further in one direction as there is no one left on Servers B and C to challenge. How ANet ever hopes to balance WvW is beyond me, but putting some small cost on tranfers and expanding the lock out window to at least 72 hours, if not a week, would help.
If we transfer servers, I'm afraid our situation won't improve in the long term. Sure, it's all sunshine and flowers for awhile, but we will lose all the influence our guild has accumualted, along with our unlocks, like emblems and guild storage. That wouldn't be a huge deal if our guild was active enough to rebuild with the same speed as we initially did, but we've already seen a massive loss of members due to WoW and Borderlands 2, among other things. On a personal note, I'd be leaving behind friends on the GoM server, which puts me a very difficult position
I'm not against transferring servers on principle, but I feel like we're pulling the trigger with too much haste. Is there room for discussion and debate?
In this instance the grass is incredibly greener. For me this game is about WvWvW. Leveling alts and personal stories is fun too, but those are casual solo endeavors. BnW had one night where people logged in to do WvW as a group, the next week nobody showed up. People had been leaving the game before the WoW Panda expansion came out and when it did the guild offically died as far as I can tell. We are lucky if we have maybe 4-5 people on during prime time hours. I can't sit around week after week on a dead server in a dead guild not enjoying myself and hoping that people will come back to the game. I wouldn't expect anyone who's left GW2 to come back until some kind of expansion or major patch is released. I doubt I'll be playing this game in a month's time in which case I'll be waiting for some new content before I come back.
I hopped over to ET just to see if the WvW experience was any different on a higher ranked server and what I found was a night and day difference. Even at it's best GoM didn't have this kind of organization and communication. It's honestly fun over here, even now in Tier 1 where we really have little chance of winning but the action is always good. I'm not suggesting the whole guild transfers, simply because being a guild in Guild Wars 2 means almost nothing. It's little more than a chat channel. If those perks you mentioned enter into my gameplay at all they do it without my notice.
I just put it out there that if you like WvW then you'd be having a much better time over here. Sure ET might decline, it's inevitable that guilds will break up or transfer, this game isn't currently made for the long haul. That's why I say get your enjoyment out of it now.
This is exactly my problem with the game. There is nothing to bring a guild together in this game. Beefy is right. We had one great weekend of guild WvW but after that no one showed up anymore. I'm all for planning things for the guild, but when people don't make an effort to show it's a bit disheartening.
WoW came back and instantly I'm able to play with 30 or more people and actually do content together. Sure it's a 7 year old game, but at least it WORKS. There is such a huge disconnect with guilds in GW2 that I have to wonder what exactly Anet wanted to do with them in the first place. Frankly I'm deflated and let down. They have alienated any sense of end game, and placed a huge barrier on people who actually want to play together.
Their boss content goes from mindless zerg to over tuned mess in an instant. It just makes me want to scream considering how amazing the games potential is. WvWvW is by far the most amazing PvP experience of any MMO to date and yet its burdened with obscene amounts of balance issues.
In fact, I'd like to turn the guild over to Sheriff since he has way more faith in the game then I do. At least someone that bleeds GW2 should lead the charge of the guild and keep all the perks. On that note, it might not be a bad idea to get out there more within the GW2 community to recruit more guild members. As beefy said, I log on now and I'm lucky to see 3 people on. Last night there was no one on after work and I just logged off.
As for the transfers, I can't say that I blame you. At the end of the day you need to have fun with the games you play.
I agree with beefy. ET is just so much better at WvW than GoM. I'd rather play on a server that's trying to win and communicates than on one that just randomly zergs. You really should try it out, even if for a day. (free transfers). Plus, BnW lost so many to WoW and Borderlands. I don't see them coming back, nor do I feel like waiting for them. I'm still playing and I'm having too much fun in WvW.
yeah i am defintely the same about waiitng. way to impaitient for that. Plus when Halo comes out my GW2 pay time although not much now will take a significant hit.
Well, I think it may get worse. Ruin, the main clan on ET is thinking of leaving. Possibly to Blackgate. So a new move may be in order. Right now ET can't hold shit if Ruin isn't protecting it. Not sure what happened to the other guilds but our Borderlands are a mess.
Who knows.
I haven't heard anything in guild chat about Ruin leaving and there's nothing on their forums, but it wouldn't surprise me. It seems that at least one very large WvW guild jumped ship from ET to JQ, the winning server, and now Ruin is the only guild fighting the fight. It doesn't matter to me what server I'm on, winning or losing, I just want competent WvW. As long as transfers remain free I'll move again. If they annouce that they will actually start charging for transfers I'll probably just go back to GoM or whatever server BnW decides on and just stop playing until some new content is released.
I'd give this game a month before things just start becoming a ghost town. For the insane amount of effort you have to put into WvW to win there is absolutely no reward for it other than bragging rights so we'll see even the most hardcore guilds dying real soon I'd wager. ANet needs to address the current issues and add something to make people want to keep playing.
Right now I'm really enjoying the WvWvW. GW2 will keep me busy until Halo 4 and BLOPs2 come out. Then I'll just play casually. It's not like there's a subscription fee.
I have gone back to WoW after a two year hiatus and haven't really looked back. However, there is so much good in GW2 that I wish WoW would emulate. Simple little features like porting on the map, deposit of collectibles, evade, LOS that works, etc. So much promise in the PvP which all came to naught imo. Just not enough there to keep me.
I think you guys missed out on the PvP, at least in WvWvW. GoM was a disorganized mess that got double teamed due the the "hackers". We never stood a chance. That and no guilds stepped up to coordinate attacks. My expeirence since moving servers to Eredon Terrace is completely different. Being on a Top Teir server that takes WvWvW seriously has changed my outlook on the gametype. I'm playing a different game on the new server and am having a lot of fun while doing it. WvW is a big part of why I play and I really have no interest in playing in a server that isn't competing. Also, Ruin is a humongous guild with several hundred players. I think that's the key to playing WvW effectively.
With that said, I would like to fire up a new guild over there for when I'm not in WvW. A place where we can get our group to BS and do shit together. Ruin is too large and is only really good for WvW.
As for sPvP, I think GW2 should look at what SWToR did and try some of their gametypes. I know people bitched about Huttball, but I think that was one of their best gametypes. The problem with it was people never understood how to play. It was all about position, teamwork and passing. Killing wasn't the main focus of Huttball. My other favorite was Novare Coast, you needed to hold 2 of 3 objectives to score. This allowed teams to mount comebacks from games that appeared lost. I put a lot of time in sPvP already and hope they add gametypes like that.
Anyway, the no Subcription fee is nice. It allows you guys to hop back in to check shit out anytime.
I moved over to ET as well. I also gave Lala and Sheriff lead of the guild and stepped down.
Quitter.
It's unfortunate that the guild has seen a mass exodus of players. I expected it would happen closer to the big fall releases (Halo, COD) but not so soon. We haven't even done anything fun together as a guild. Also, I don't understand the general dissatisfaction. I've put 250 hours into the game, and I've enjoyed every minute of it--even when we were losing at WvW. But, I'm not going to hold quitting the game, or giving up on the guild, against anyone. We all have different tastes, and expectations. GW2 meets mine; it doesn't meet yours. That's okay. No hard feelings. Que sera sera, and all that.
The nice thing about GW2 is there are no subscription fees, and if anyone decides to hop back on to see what new features/content have been introduced, please drop me a line. (Add Sheriff Bullock.3859 to your friends list.) I am going to leave this guild, though. A very good friend of mine wanted me to join her guild at the beginning, but I declined because Black N White had the numbers. Since that is no longer the case, I am going to park my characters in her guild for awhile. That doesn't mean I won't do dungeons, or other PvE content, with someone if they're interested. You might even see me on the 2o2p site a bit longer. I heard a rumor I'm not the only person in the world with a PlayStation VIta.
Until we meet again,
S.B.
