Slater : You enter them into the game so you need to be at your console. Fire up Borderlands, go to Extras, Shift Codes and hit X to enter in the code (best I can do off the top of my head). As long as the code is valid and within the redemption window, you'll get the award which up to this point has been golden keys.
MJ: They're beta testing the SHiFT code recemption system right now. They're trying to see what the recemption numbers are at various times during the day GLOBALLY. and collecting data. So when they roll out of Beta testing, they can do much larger windows in which to redeem and know about how much server capacity they'll need at what hours of the day so the system dosn't take a shit.
I think you need to use the front end game menu to sign up for shift to begin with, which also grants you 1 golden key.
Discouraging part is following Pitchford on twitter when he does these. You can tell he's being bombed with complaints from people that can't follow simple details. Today, for example, he tweeted the codes out around 11, and said they wouldn't work until after 1. People still hit him when they tried at 11:01 and didn't get their free thing. Also seems like many people are complaining to him when they can't figure out time zone conversions. Gearbox is in Texas, so everything is in central time. Which, is awesome for me, as I'm also in central time. Maybe I'm just used to having to convert everything that's usually stated in either Eastern or Pacific time, and maybe the kids (I hope it's not adults) that are having troubles aren't accustomed to having to do the math.
finalliy got one! I like the mid-day codes cause I work from home and can take a few mins to log in and grab them. If not, I'd have to wait til 9pm EST to get anything.
Randy tweeted that this SHiFT code is intended for the UK crowd. There will be one intended for USA folks later today. Of course the codes aren't zoned, anyone can use them. The catch though is that you need to be able to fire up your game to enter the key codes in. I wish / hope they'll add website support later.
EDIT : This code is probably expired, at this point the redemption window is 2 hrs 15 mins so it's probably not valid anymore. Gotta wait for the next code later today.
Things like this are why I have a twitter account. For now, I enabled text notifications for when Pitchford tweets these out. So, they're on my phone, easy to get them onto my tv from the couch.
