How to play beyond Playthru 1 for the best loot
Picked up these tips from the Borderlands official forums, this is important to note as you are doing your playthru 2 if you want to get the best loot in playthru 2.5 . The reason for this strat is because quests do not reset after you finish playthru 2. SO if you want level 50 gear as rewards, leave all the side quests for playthru 2.5 and just do story missions and farm during playthru 2.

In playthrough 1, do everything, to level as high as poss as quick as poss, in order to be able to complete the story quests which are hard levelled (have set levels).
In playthrough 2, do ONLY the story quests, as it is the one and only time the quests will be reset. Once you complete the story the second time, you are in PT2.5, everything is in super hard mode (a level or 2 above level cap), that is the time to go back and do all the side quests in order to get rewards levelled as high as they can be. This is also probably the best time to use a golden key or 2.

I did this for the first borderlands. It still helps to play with others to get the rare loot boost too.
I did not play BL1 this way so I plan on following this strategy this time around.
Don't even except quests/missions. Once excepted they are level locked even if you don't pursue them until finishing pt2.
