Disney to Buy Lucasfilm

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2012/10/30/disney-to-buy-lucasfilm-for-4-05b/

Wow, I am scared because I don't want disney to screw with my beloved Star Wars Universe and excited because this will keep Lucas from screwing it up even more!    New movie in 2015.....very cool if disney can treat star wars like they did avengers.

A lot of fans are upset by this but I think this is actually a win.  Episodes 1, 2 and 3 were bad and kind of killed my love for Star Wars.  Disney has done a kick ass job with Marvel movies so I think they will do the same with the Star Wars films.  I just hope they get Joss Whedon on board to give them the same tone as Empire Strikes Back.

BBC article says they plan to do epispdes 7,8, and 9 and will be poping out a new movie every two years.

All of this is moot, living in FL, if I don't get my Battlefront 3 soon I'll be banging on Disney's front door... and maybe KOTAR 3.

Consider yourself on notice, Mickey!

i agree with Pete. It can't get worse than that final celebration in Episode 1.

Lucas has already put the Star War franchise in the sewers.

Honestly, after episodes 1, 2, and 3, it can't get any worse. I would rather have singing ewoks than lines like, "Now THIS is pod racing". "Are you a space angel"? "Meesa no have a boomba".

^This.  No way they could do worse than 1,2 and 3.

I concur.  Episode 1 was so god awful horrible, I didn't even bother wasting my time (let alone $$$) on episodes 2 & 3.  Episode 1 probably wouldn't have been so bad w/o that floppy ear twit.  That one character single handedly put the movie (and possibly the entire series) in the gutter for me.

You mean, like, redoing 4, 5 and 6 for no apparent reason other than laziness and greed? Which I can see to a point, but don't take the originals off the market.

Don't do 7, 8 and 9 when you can redo 4, 5 and 6...over and over and...

Lucas wasn't happy just jumping the shark with the last 3 movies - he wanted to make sure he burried this bitch.  I'm so scared that I might actually pay to go see the new movies they will make...

I see this as a good thing.  Remember the 70s and 80s when Disney made films for the whole family, not just kids films but call it family films?  The Blackhole.  20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

If they could bring that to the table with Star Wars it will be a good movie.  I now have high expectations for Disney live action movies.  They have Lucasfilm, ILM, and Skywalker Sound.  The movies better have good effects and sound.

The Pixar guys can say hi to their old employers :)

Star Wars or Indiana Jones could be in the next Kingdom Hearts?

Of course, Mickey could sneak into SWTOR.

A new Howard the Duck?  Or Willow?  Those are films Disney could take on and do right.  With the popularity of remakes I wouldn't be surprised.

There's a ton of material from IPs like Knights of the Old Republic and the Jedi Knight / Kyle Katarn games to last Disney years.

Also, Disney's produced more good movies (all the new Marvel movies: did you Iron Man?  The Hulk? Captian America?  Disney, all) from their acquired AP than they have produced crap.

They can't do worse than Lucas; he set the bar that low.

The best of the original trilogy had very little input from Lucas (Empire Strikes Back, arguably the best, was neither written nor directed by Lucas), so this bodes well in my opinion.

I, for one, look forward to SWTOR-based movies - those games (from KoToR to SWTOR) have some of the best storylines in the expanded universe, including the original.  When SWTOR goes free to play, I highly suggest making characters and running through the solo story content.  It's worth the time.

Until Disney actually produces a movie that's crap, I'm going to expect Marvel-quality films from them.

I like this.  Disney has done an excellent job with their last two acquisitions - Pixar and Marvel - and really haven't interferred.  I'm personally pretty excited by the news, which I probably wouldn't have been if the results of their Marvel movies weren't so good.

If there's one thing Disney truly exceeds at it's protecting their characters. Ask anyone that's ever worked for them and they'll back up that statement.

Star Wars VI will be an original story.  Disney will not be using any existing material for the new movie.  Sadly, that means not Thrawn trilogy.

This is a subject for which I am greatly divided.    The Thrawn trilogy was such an amazing continuation of the original star wars it would be perfect for the big screen.   If non of you have ever read this trilogy, I highly reccomend it.  However, I don't think I could accept someone else other than the original actors to plan Han, Luke & Leia.   The good news is that therw is such a rich trove of good stories from the expanded universe novels to help shape and mold an new original story set for the big screen.  Also the trawn trilogy really only had two jedi.....dosen't make for alot of lightsabe duels.....but I would rather have depth of story than some excuse to see a lightsaber.  My guess is something way old republic like around KOTOR or before....which they could tie into a really great video game.  There is plenty of fodder to develop a set of characters over a 3 movie set that would tie into the expanded univerise.  Just my $0.02.

creating a good story is one thing....I am hopefull for that.  But picking the right actors to act their parts is another thing.  Take Hayden Christiansen for example....horrible actor, I hated him as Anakin Skywalker....I had some hope for him after the angel seeing Jake Lloyd....but was sadly dissapointed by his performance, as well as Natalie Portman.  The only person that did a good job acting and capturing their role in the prequels was Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan.  Of course I dont want to see the stars of Twilight coming to the Star Wars universe.

This whole thing has me in a kaluful as they say.  Star Wars has been my favorite thing since childhood, and not just the movies....I have a extensive collection of books, games, comics, toys, and other stuff....and while it makes me happy that they will continue the legacy of Star Wars for my kids, kids, I fear massive watering down due to bad writting, and or bad actors.

I have seen all those actors in other films and they have done a lot better than they did in star wars.  Even Samuel L. Jackson who is a superb actor was very flat and boring in the prequels.  I attribute that to the director, in this case George Lucas.   ESB was so much better with Lucas not a the healm and I have the same hopes for the new movies.

The problem was Lucas made Jedi knights flat and boring.  They might as well all been Mr. Spock since they were not allowed any emotion.  He also made 1,2 and 3 too serious.  The original movies were fun and fast paced with some funny moments sprinkled in.  Hopefully Disney goes that direction.

this, a 1000 times this. i blame all 3 of those movies with all their bad acting, piss poor storylines, and overal unlimited suckage to the fact that lucas was "in charge".  the more he got involved, the worse the movies got.  i started thinking the first one was a happy accident, because everything else he did was such utter shite.  i'm cautiously optimistic that disney can make something good here.  if they were smart they'd look hard at some of the big names out there now, peter  jackson, joss whdeon, and the blomkamp dude that did the halo live-action stuff.
