XBOX Smartglass App for Android
xbox has an app out called "smartglass" for android.
it's your xbox dashboard on your smartphone and it is WAY faster than xbox.com.
it's free and seems to work well. there is also a way to connect to your xbox, but you need to enable the app on your xbox and it must be powered on and signed in. i don't know what the purpose of it would be yet, but i'm gonna try it out tonight.
anyone else used this. thoughts?
I tried it out when the app was released. i thought it was cool for the 20 minutes I messed around with it.
I only tried the part for controlling my xbox, didn't look at anything else. It was a little touchy on my phone as far as moving my finger on the screen and how far i would move on the xbox dashboard. maybe there is a setting for the sensitivity, didn't take the time to look.
It was great for trying out the IE app. Since my phone has swype it was easy typing.
I checked out xbox music and while you were playing a song it gave more info on your phone.
checked out Halo Waypoint. didn't provide more info on the phone.
Basically when your browsing your dashboard it acts just like your controller.
Didn't play any movies other than Youtube, which worked well.
As of now it's just a neat trick. Will need to spend more time with it to see how useful it is over just using the controller.
confirmed.
it's still a shit ton faster to check messages and clean out the friends list than using xbox.com
you can see who's on without taking 10 min.
Tried to download this on my nexus 7 but it won't let me, says it's not compatible. wtf ?!
You need to have Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) in order to be able to download it. I have a droid incredible 2 and I can't get it becaue my phone will never get ICS.
The Nexus 7 comes with Jelly Bean whichs is v4.1 or 4.2. I can see it not working with versions prior to ICS but ICS and forward should work in my opinion.
yeah, i have ICS. i would think TANK is right though. anything later than 4.0 should work as well.
MS is cockblocking it from being loaded on tablets -- xbox.com says Android smartphones only. That being said, you can side load it if you can track down the apk if you really want it.
