COTA!!!
Finally it is here. I am on my way down to Houston/Austin this weekend for F1's return to the US. Oh and my wife's birthday. Anyways, been looking forward to this all year and the weather looks to be great there this weekend. Three of us are going Sunday and will be in the turn 11 grandstand. This is my first race to ever attend and I'm excited! I'll post some pics when I get back next week.
Sweet! Have fun. I'm going down next year for the V8 Supercars.
Already purchased tickets (airline & 3-day race pass) along w/ hotel reservations. Can't wait. We'll have seats reserved in T1...though I suspect we'll be wandering around the track throughout the weekend. I would like to catch an F1 race there at some point, just for the experience.
Have a good time and get ready for your ears to bleed!!
Awesome Ammodawg! Track looks promising and you're pretty much gauranteed a good race as most are these days. Parcells attended the Montreal F1 race a few years back and like most newbies the sound of the cars just blows you away. You can crank your TV up as loud as you can but it pales in comparison to experiencing it 10-50 yards away.
Enjoy!
HOLY SHIT!!!!! Just got home and man what a day. So we got there just in time to see the Ferrari's running on the track. We were seated in Turn 11 3rd row of the West grandstand. Awesome spot for watching the cars come into the hairpin turn before launching into the DRS zone down the long straight. God what a sight! One of the guys I went with is an avionics tech for aircraft so he made us an intercom system to use with our headsets. So we were able to talk easily as the cars went by. The race between Hamilton and Vettel was just pure awesome, and I got some video of Hamilton on the victory lap as he pulled up in front of our grandstand. I'll post some pics tomorrow. Already planning for next year.
Sounds like you had an awesome time!!
Cannot wait to see the pics.gif)
From a few of the shots I saw on tv, it looked likt the camera choppers were flying super low at points.
Yep, turn 1 is "quite" high! Is the last part of the track also a bit higher...? Wish we could have this track in Forza, it would be awesome!
Yea JC the helo did get pretty low and actually flew right over our grandstand at less than 150ft a couple of times. All three of us at the race know the pilot so I think one of the guys are going to call him and just kinda give a heads up that he should have been higher. Anyways it was a blast. Turn 1 is the highest point and from there they go over the hill and into a drop off at turn 10. Turn 11 is just a little bit of an up hill hairpin then back down along the long straight away.
So now for the pics:
This is looking towards turn 1 from where we were sitting.

Here is Vettel coming down the hill out of turn 10 with Lewis giving chase.

And here is turn 11, it was amazing to see the amount of speed they carried into the corner and then come almost to a complete stop to make the turn.

Where´s the Iceman??
I'm driving back to Tulsa now. Let me look when I get home. I'm pretty sure I got a pic of him.
