1970 SCCA Trans Am Series Any Interest?
1970 SCCA Trans Am Series Any Interest?
Hey gang. I've been mulling over the thought of doing a 1970 Scca Trans am series. I wanted to gauge interest before I start working on a build spec for the cars.
So let me know what you think.

1971 AMC Javelin-AMX
1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
1970 Ford Mustng Boss 429

1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SD-455
Initial Build Specs:
Max 425 HP Except For the AMC Javelin. AMC Javelin Max HP 400
Car must weigh no less than 3150 LBS
Drag Tires
Race Roll Cage
NO engine or drivetrain sweps
NO Race Transmissions
Wheels must be Cragar or American Racing brands
No Upgraded Rim Sizes Tire width upgrades are ok.
Maximum Lateral Grip rating no higher than 0.975g
I watched the long version of the season series and got sucked into the nostalgia. :) 1970's era muscle would be fun. I'd be interested to hear more about what you have mind.
sounds great :D
Time and day good Im in.
Hello,
would try that! If day and time are right for me.

Ok folks. I'll start working on build specs then. Just FYI, I think I'm going to go with a similar format to Tourni's Britpro series. Once I've had a chance to experiment some, I'll set a minimum weight, hp, & lateral g grip ratings. Pleases bear with me for a couple of days & I'll see what I can come up with.
As for a race day & time, We'll discus that further down the road. I'd like to shoot for something on the weekend in the afternoon here in the states so our euro members can participate as well.
J - The easiest way i found to set the lateral G of the cars was:
Set HP limit
Set weight limit
Build cars to those, including suspension etc but don't touch tyre
Add compound you want to run. (drag or slick)
Record lowest lat G
max width and record highest lat G
Pick the number that all cars can hit :)
Hope that help, should be a great series.
I actually started inital work on the specs a little bit yesterday. Most of the cars that will be elgible are pretty close, so I think it should be fairly straightforward getting them finished up. Like the Bitpros, I thinkwe're going to run full damage & drag tires with this series.
Yeah, they were fairly close on the BPC - we just found that width changed per the class of the car.
(some cars started with huge grip amounts, whilst some couldn't even get close to the lowest grip with the max width)
Happy to build + test once you decide the specs, I reckon it will be a great line up.
Roughly, I think we'll be looking at cars somewhere in the 3100-3200 minimum weight range with a max hp of 425. I've still got to get the lateral g banchmark sorted though. I just need to play with the tires to figure that out & I'l be ready to start posting specs & eligible cars.
Hey J, take a look at my storefront. I still have all the tunes/builds from the Vintage TA series I ran back when FM4 was released. Save you some work. I can send you whichever builds you'd like for eval. Let me know.
that would mean i could dust of my aussie muscle
I've already started working on hammering out specs so folks can build their own cars to the new regs. If your old car fit's the regs, then you're always welcome to use it again.
I would like to join in as well.
I'd like to give it a go. Hadn't got to race with everyone in a while.
Somehow I managed to miss the whole free build to specs (like BPC). I was thinking you were doing set builds again.
Ignore this clueless soul.
Yes, the plan is to use a set list of cars with the build left up to each racer. Although I'll be able to provide tunes for anyone who will need one since I'll be building them all anyway. I'll bet some of the other tuners here will also be willing to share their builds once things get rolling.
I"ll get an initial list of the cars I've got in mind a little later here this evening.
OP Updated with eligible car list & build specs. Let's get to testing folks.
Can i build a couger? I like the look of that :D No probs if not :D
I'm trying to keep the cars limited to the ones that actually ran the 1970 season. There were a smattering of 69 bodies in the field, & I've added the 73 camaro simply because it's the same as the 70 more or less. SO I'd prefer no cougar.
Change your mind ?
Totally cool, I'm gonna build some stuff tonight.
Think i'll start with the Cuda :D
do me a falcon boss
No, pick one from the list
but the falcon is a 73
I think J is replicating the SSCA exactly :)
Pretty much.
J - am i still building to 425hp?
yep.
Built a Plymouth and a Mustang, should be a good race as the cars handle better than I thought :)
