Even with repair in the game I wouldn't have worried, XLs werent that expensive to repair. But either way6, repair and rearm has been removed from the game so use whatever equipment you want. I was going to suggest you try to construct a 3UAC build, but the one you suggest sounds plenty effective. I don't even have a Cataphract, let alone Ilya, so I can't really make a good suggestion.
