DayZ mod for Arma 2. Zombie apocalypse simulation
DayZ mod for Arma 2. Zombie apocalypse simulation
I bought Arma 2 on Steam this weekend for $17(its back up to $29) and came across this Zombie simulation mod. It is in Alpha but is very playable. It has a fairly steep learning curve but if you ever wanted to really know what it would be like to survive a zombie appocolypse you should really try this out.
You start out with only a flash light and and some bandages, and zombies as well as human players are out to kill you. The zombies react kinda funny and the inventory system needs help, but they aren't the meat and potatos of the game. It is the constant struggle for weapons and survival gear for you or your buddies. You get to choose whether you want to try to work with others or just shoot them in the face and talk their shit.
You can even find parts for vehicles and fix up broken down ones so you can travel faster, even helicpoters. The map itself is 225 square km. The game also has a day and night cycle that supposedly follows the time zone of the server you are playing on.
I have only been playing for 2 days and I am having a blast(can be frustrating at first). If any of you have ARMA 2 or want to get it to play DayZ let me know.
The upcoming zombie MMO, WarZ, is loosely based off this mod.

Yea it is very adictive.
I tried playing this one for a bit. Entirely too many people who completely ignore the zombies in favor of just shooting the other players to take their stuff. Even if you're with friends they can't revive you or anything.
You can be revived if you have the right items.
Morphine fixes broken leg
Epi-pen revives you from being unconcious
Pain killers keep you form shaking
Antibotics cure infection and coughing
Blood Bags give your blood(Must be given to you by a friendly)
Food will also give you 200 blood
Heat Packs raise your blood temp if you have infection
How do you fix getting shot in the head by a timmy hell bent on shooting anyone he sees? There like a Battlefield shock paddle kinda item? And is there a way to respawn near your friends after you get killed? Or do you just have to run across the country and hope you don't get eaten every time?
You can't fix it. This is a very frustrating game sometimes. There is no way to spawn on your friends either. I imagine this game will change a lot between now and when it releases as a stand alone game.Your arguements are the same as most people that don't enjoy it right off.
I am offically addicted to this myself.
Play like you're being hunted because you are.....also play like you are huning others because it is to your benefit. The zombies aren't the real problem in this game - they are just an annoyance and you can avoid them pretty easily - the other players are the real problem.
Finding each other really isn't that hard - getting to each other alive is more difficult :)
However; once you are together you can play for hours - log out and log back in to a different server together and you'll still be together in the same location....as long as one of you doesn't die.
Blow what servers do you normally play on?
Yeah I think that would be cool a 2O2Posse night would be fun. I dont have a main server either and I am on the Atlanta and Chicago servers depends on the player amount. I am in the central time zone. I think I have fianlly gotten the hang of the gear interface, so now I have been alive for a few days I am currently by the castle ruins (I belive you were there in one of your videos), near rog. Its a decent loot spot and have been trying to venture further from there.
I seem to have an easier time launching it through Six Launcher though I havent tried since the last patch.
You've been added.
I have a server. US 1428 - The Survivalist. It is a 40 man and it almost always has atleast 10 people in it. It is a east coast server set at pacific time. So the server doesn't change to night until around midnight eastern. Feel free to play there at anytime. If anything it may be a good server to goto and get geared up before heading to one of the main servers.
I had my first murder this weekend yes I played this long without doing so. After getting shot in the back and hacked in the head, I feel there is no way to trust anyone.
After watching BlowMonkey`s video`s, I just had to try it. One of the best games i`ve played in ages. Controls are a bit hard to get used to, especially for someone who played all the time on a console. Anyway any European`s playing this or anyone who plays at odd hours, hit me up. I`m gonna send you guys out some friend requests on steam, just in case we are on together.
Any of you gonna be playing the next zombie survival MMO called WarZ? The alpha starts this Monday. I have 3 beta keys for the weekend of the 31st if anyone would like one send me a PM. It is basically a arcadey version of DayZ. Lots of similarities and some different things DayZ doesn't have, yet.
I've been checking out this game's website and facebook page. I'm REALLY intrigued by it, although the general consensus seems to be that hackers/cheaters are ruining the experience.
Did you play the beta? Does it look promising, and have you had any problems with cheaters?
I am playing it on occasion. It is a decent game for the price. It does have its issues. The animations aren't great, there are hackers, there is a cool down after death were you can't use that character for 1 hour, among other little things. I think once they get all their ideas implemented into the game it will be one of the best $15 games on the market.
I bought the Legend pack(not avaliable anymore) it was $50 and I get extra in game money and 6 months of a stroghold server hosting(not implemented yet). I would not sugest anyone buying more than the standard game at this point. They have alot of features to add as well as new maps, etc. The game is in a constant state of change. It does seem on the most part(besides hackers) the devs are trying to do what the customers are asking for.
The game was just removed from Steam for listing all the features on the ad that aren't actually in the game yet which has cause a lot of backlash, and alot of people are angry saying it is a money grab, scam, copy of DAYZ. Just remeber if you do buy it that it is not a finished product( nor do I think it ever will be) and it is not a "SIM" like DAYZ. It is more cartoony(graphics are nice looking) and arcade like, but still challenging(sometimes hard) and frustrating.
*A note about the hackers. They aren't like DAYZ hackers that spawn gun boxes and vehicles. They are using aimbot and doing wall hacks. I have never ran into one, but I tend to stay on servers with less than 15 people. Max is 100. Most are maxed at 50. In the past 2 months they have banned a shit load of people with about 5% of those people being falsely banned and reinstated.
Ive been playing on US 28 if anyone is interested in joining me look for a character named Deuces.I have a couple cars and enough guns and ammo to occupy a small country and would be happy to outfit a bunch of 2old2play gamers.US 28 is a private hive which is restarted every 6 hours and is on permanent daylight ( no night cycle) and the vehicle and gear spawns are generous and can be found through the Play with 6 launcher.
I just started playing this but I watched bunch of videos on YouBook before jumping in. I lucked out today on the first server I tried and started with good equipment including a Bison SD with 7 mags. Overgeared I know. However, it does help with the learning curve and the Bison is by no means a manstopper against other human players.
If you want a casual shoot-em-up with respawns and forgiving character saves DON'T even think about this. But, if you really do want to have the willies 24/7 and know that when you screw up and die it's for good, I really recommend this. I love Fallout and this game makes Fallout feel like your playing Tic-Tac-Toe.
This is a keeper (surprising being it's an Alpha) and I can't wait to see what they make of it when Arma 3 comes out.
Yeah largely because of this game (and FTL, Demons Souls, Dark Souls etc.) the only games I can get into have serious consequences / perma death. It's the only way to play :)
Found a server that was a small population (8 players max) that were actively HELPING each other. It was kind of cool. It wasn't private although it probably should have been, same four players are always on it apparently. But, it was nice to be able to play the game and explore and every now and then ask a question and get a decent answer. Nothing important and everybody still doesn't trust ANYONE (as it should be) but non-contact verbal exchanges were more often pleasant than not.
I did learn one thing that is very important. If you find the 870 shotgun with a tac-light loaded with slugs PUT IT BACK DOWN!! It looks awesome and does have a lot of power but it attracts zombies like Hummer attracts douchebags. Fire that cannon off near any population center and you might as well have basted yourself in your own spinal fluid and rang a dinner bell.
Crossbow for the win.
Oh MY GOOD GOD. I laughed so hard watching this I damn near split.

^^ that was great lol
Anyone pick up ARMA 3. They have DayZ for ARMA 3 but you have to have 3 versions of ARMA2 installed plus ARMA3 to play the damn thing (zoombies). I've been playing a DayZ varient called Breaking Point on ARMA 3. It's pretty well done - it's not a clone but close enough and adds some stuff.
Woth checking out if you have ARMA 3.
I haven't worried about the mod for Arma 3. For one because the Arma 2 mod is getting better with more content and also because I've been putting a lot of time into the Standalone Alpha on Steam.
So far, I'm a big fan.
I see where they're going with this and I like it. While for some they have complicated survival significantly enough to possibly be a detterent to them jumping in, I see it as awesome. I run survivalist characters, I don't jump in with the thought of running PvP. If I want a multiplayer death match I go play CoD or something.
Food issues, water purification, dealing with illness and honestly needing to find medical supplies make this a huge boon for my pack-rat scavenger side. It appears that Bohemia will be including a cooking element as well as shelter construction and fortification similar to Ep0ch in the mod for Arma2.
They're tweaking at the zombies which are not much of a threat at the moment. But, by the time the full game is released I expect that you will be earning every one of those beans.
Nice. I've been playing some of Project Zomboid lately (like Sims / Zombie Survival) the number of things you can do in that game is staggering.....from filling objects with water to ripping your clothes up to use as bandages, buiding / fortifying buildings etc. Just really deep. Might be up your alley as well :)
