March Community Monthly Rivals

Earlier tonight I hopped on and took a more serious look at this month's rivals events when the Rival Challenge message appeared at the bottom of my screen.  Surf had beaten my initial run in the Smart car event.  This action prompted a game of one upmanship between us that went through three different events.  I think I've won this round but the month's still young.  LOL.

As is my normal practice whenever there are any new Rival events where multiple cars are eligible, I'll look at the leaderboards and see what everyone else is running and then pick the car that's not "gettin' the love" from the community and see what I can do with them.

So if you're looking for something a bit unconventional you might want to check these cars out.  The tunes are on my storefront but I'll happily gift them to any 2O4F member that wants to mess around with the setup.

FYI.  I use a wheel/pedal setup.  Not sure how well these cars will handle for controller users.

Mitsubishi FTO - Deep Six Rival Event

FWD tune.
285 HP
212 lb-ft of torque
2566 lbs.

Good handling car that does have a little bit of lift-off oversteer but it gives up a lot of straightline speed to other cars in the event.  Still managed to run a 1:10.644 with it but I don't think I can get much more out of it.  I had made an AWD version but it was 300 lbs. heavier with the same hp.  Too bad there isn't a RWD swap.

Renault Twingo - How do you Renault? Rival Event

RWD Tune.
335 hp
300 lb-ft of torque
2400 Lbs.

I think it might have too much torque.  The turbo kicks in like a jackhammer so it's possible to break the back tires loose under full accel when coming up through the gears.  You'll spend most of the lap in second and third.  Even with max downforce the rear gets a bit light under braking.  All in all a quick car in the right hands but it's not a forgiving car.
Ran a 2:46.6xx which puts me 10th on the board at the moment but again, it's early in the month.

24  Shaggy !!!   When I logged on to run Cooters Evora race....had a bunch of msgs popping up aout the rival challenges.  Ran the race, took a break and came back to see what was up.  You kept popping up when I started a challenge. I usually continue running even if I beat my first rival....until I get a clean lap or think I've done what I can do with that car/tune.  Had a couple tunes for the Smart so I had to try both wink.  Soooo I get done with the challenges I' gonna run....I always have to find/buy a tune for the drift challenges....I go back to clean up my inbox....and here are more msgs....now showing that Shaggy has beaten me AGAIN !!!  You're correct about it being early in the month and I'll probably try again before the month is over.  But now I'm gonna be looking for YOU !!!  11

p.s.  gonna go grab your tunes and give those a try.

I did a quick run through this months stuff, and they're a good mix, I like 'em!

I beat someone in the drift challenge, and if you know me, that's an amazing accomplishment! But I did it with a D class track car out of the club as I don't own an SX!

Looked at the drag challenge and picked  a car that's not common, Pug, and did pretty good too!

BTW in the 6 cyl challenge, the M3 is a very good contender!

I've only had a go at the Corvette challenge at Indy so far but when I get back on I will definitely try using Shaggy's tunes for the other events. I use the pad so it will be interesting to see how I get on...

I love the Rivals events but as I can't tune and we don't seem to get D2NR producing cars for these events anymore I have been left to just head to the storefront. Its great to have another option now so thanks Shaggy. I like your idea of trying these with less popular cars.

I can kinda tune.  I've gotten better with parts selection but when it comes to the fine tuning, I'm usually going with whatever settings MyForzaGarage's tuning calc spits out, although I've started incorporating Cotter's Camber, Toe-In and Caster settings.

They're decent but I'm sure some of our resident tuning gurus can work their voodoo magic on them.

Oldschool, yeah I think the M3 is going to be the LB favorite.  Surf used it and he'd just pull away from me going up the hill.  The only reason I was able to best his time was he got a bit loose on the last turn.  TrackAsassin was using the Honda NSX-R.  That might be the next car I hop into.

I don't tune at all....other than base tunes via the Fantomas settings, sometimes the Forzatune app.  The M3 I drove is from the ALS garage.  I usually try a few cars in my garage if I have any that qualify.  Then the club garage.  Then I just hit the storefront.  I know pretty much where I rate compared to racers on my f/l and club.  Once in awhile I get lucky in the random event and do much better than usual.

The one I drove is just a parts car I cobbled together, but it felt pretty good.

Noticed last night that Shaggy had improved his time (and beat my best time in the FTO in the process) in an Acura NSX, so I decided to throw one together myself, changed a few settings randomly and managed to jump up to the top 500 surrounded by 90% M3s and a few VW Golf's. Car is free on my storefront if anyone fancies giving it a try.

Cool. I'll give it a shot later this week.

I also went back and rebuilt the Twingo.  Mainly I took off the turbo and rebuilt the engine from there.  The result is a car with about 30 less hp but it's also a couple hundred pounds lighter.  Dropped my previous time by a little over a half second but oh my is it twitchy. The back end wants to step out especially under braking if you even slightly turn the wheel.   It's almost too nimble for it's own good.  I've got max downforce front and rear.  Would softening the rear suspension help the mechanical grip?

I'll throw it up on my storefront tonight if anyone wants to try it.

That VW that G8TRBOB drove seems like it has a ton more power than the M3 I built for the 6CYL challenge. Maybe I did something wrong with the build.

I'd be interested in an M3 tune.

FWIW I think some of the faster guys could post some good times with a RWD swapped Dodge Stealth. Seemed pretty quick when I drove it but I gave up quick because it's ugly.

Softening rear springs will help.

What's that mid engine, is it a Renault, thats a 6 cylinder? ( Renault Clio Sport V-6) The one they just ran in the drift rivals for the Unicorn.

I bet that's a viable option.
