Project Cars

So after not touching this one for a few weeks I decided to see what was new, downloaded the updates and prepared to do my usual 10 mins fecking around before turing it off for another week, instead I found myself doing a 20 lap race against the AI at not Silverstone and enjoying it. Maybe there is hope yet. Still has an arcade feel, but slowly becoming more drivable and the Car models are lovely to look at while you drive.

It's pretty, no doubt about that, my instinct is this will be a step up from Forza, but will not have the depth of rf2. They have started with the easy bit, the prettys. The physics is the real tough thing to get right. ISI have gone the other way, working on physics of both cars and world first and will be bolting on the graphics later. They of course are using a version of their pro race sim as a base, and have been longer in development albeit with a much smaller team.

My guess is this should work well with a controller as it is going to be released on Xbox too.

They have multiplayer now, came in a few weeks ago. So maybe we could run a fun race or two, Kurupt has it...not sure about other 2O2R folk, few GBR guys have it too. I'll try the Joypad with it for you, see if it is any easier than iracing, cause that was...well not one lap done in half an hour LOL

Sign ups have been closed for a bit since funding was completed, they reopened the funding to current investors to eliminate some of sms contribution so investors will get a larger portion if it hits its mark...

I have 5 senior accounts ill send you the info for one and see if it will let you run it from your pc.....warning tho it needs a pretty good card to run it and get the most eye candy, also be advised the new tire model is not installed yet and basically running on a upgraded shift 2 engine :(

Oh yeah forgot that, have you noticed an improvement in the AI? I felt that I was able to run with them with far more confidence. Up until now they would just pile into corners and though the human like you weren't there, that 20 Lapper I started from the back and worked my way up without more than the odd bit of paint swapping. I was running the BMW M3

honestly I couldn't get the game to fire up for months...I re installed gamebooster and it works again? due to the bad ai and being suck a hog on the gpu I just ran practice laps....ran a few laps in the dtm the other day...graphics seem smoother, ffb seemed a bit better could be the wheel? the handling seemed a bit too easy compared to before...ill give it a go again later and see if theres anymore advancements....I was really hoping for a better selection of cars to my liking so far I just run the asano, palmer and one of the classic lotus

The wheel will make a difference, you have gone from cog to belt, FFB was the one thing I saw no difference in, pretty average. Yeah car selection in all these next gen sims leave us BTCC nuts out in the cold.  Just have to be patient I guess.

rF2 has one BTCC car in the works (official license)  so there should be more. Yes hopefully modders will also be working on full series mods.

No Demo, you need to sign up for the Beta that is not called a Beta (don't ask) You may need to wait a while to get more brownie points wink

I like Project CARS, but I am growing tired of the bugs.  I paid my $$$ a long time ago, yet when I recently updated the game and tried to play, it kept freezing up and crashing.  I cannot get Raceroom Experience to load, and rFactor 2, which I also paid for a long time ago, has its share of problems.  At this point, I do not plan to devote any additional time to "beta" sim racing titles.  My patience with beta testing is growing thin, whether it be games, or CSR Elite wheels (I am on my fourth, the first three failed due to burnt motors).

Is your gpu overclocked ? I've found. All the games to crash when running them at the same overlooks of the old games....dropped it down a few notches and havent. had a problem in a while.

Yes.  I have the "Superclocked" version of the EVGA 4 GB 670, which apparently is overclocked out of the box.

I have not overclocked the GPU or memory.  I did overclock my CPU in order to get more oompth for iRacing.

It will look and sound better than it will feel cause its running on the old physics enine.....try the bmw m3 gt its got the new beta tire/slip model, tricky at first but felt alot better than the old shift physics.  I found it felt very similar but a tad less forgiving than the gt cars in iracing.  Pcars has recently ran into some issues of late......FSA has shut down there member funding program and are investigating to make sure its not an investment scam and that the members have and equal say and that there input is being implemented.  Also there currently offline to repair an issue with updating and the launcher.

From what ive read the only cars running on the new beta tire model are the GT/F1 and caper stock car, it feels good but theres still some issues biggest one seems to be when the rear starts to break loose....all in all a big step forward.

Be interesting to here what the fsa says and if they vote against the program if pcars will be terminated?

At this stage i cant see this game being ready to release by nov.  Minus the beta tire model in a few cars there only using 50% of the physics most of the cars are running on the old model, and most of the tracks are just a layout without the road physic/ffb added yet, so basically the game has no feel other than a heavy wheel with a few rumbles.

Good to see tho they put a fwd car in for knight :)

Is the focus rs the same model as the BTCC ford or is theres the 4 door model?

Knight r u able to run max settings in pcars?  currently with some numbed settings iam avg. about 50fps at race startand 55up during races.  What mobo you have?

Yes full settings and triple...no idea what frame rate as that is not something I worry about, as long as it looks and feels smooth, I have noticed that some sims can feel smooth at lower frame rates and others don't. rF2 can drop to 30 but stll be fine, iRacing drops below 45 and you know it.

MoBo is Asus Sabertooth 990fx, GTX 670 is running at stock and CPU running in turbo mode at 3.9 Ghtz

I fired it up today and did some laps around morivia in the new ford rs and megean...they did a great job on the modeling, sound needs work....at first i wasn't blown away by the feel just felt like a heavy wheel with force, so i lowered the in game ffb to 60% and took her back out and wow it was a whole new car! The suspension physics were great i could feel the body shifting and what each part was doing, for a wip on the old tire model it felt very good, think i spent a hr on the track running it! Megaine felt very similar. I tried the few cars with the new wip tire model and they are vastly improved :) You diffently have to lower the ingame ffb to get a feel for what the cats are doing...the base ffb is so strong and have that you get absolutely no feel of the car. I hope they add a steering strength slide for those that lower the ffb setting cause I found it a tad light. As an investor i was getting a little nervous that they were more concerned with eyecandy than physics, but they started working with a few pro drivers, tire companies and with the glimpses of the new tire and suspension physics I feeling optimistic again :) It may not be accepted by the small group of die hards, but if it can give gt5 and forza a run for there money ill be laughing all the way to the bank :) On another note there's a e90 in the works with the focus and Megaine could setup a wtcc style series they should all be in a similar class but time will tell, iam excited too see more now hopefully that dont get shut down.

I spent some time today reading the physics thread today and got some info on why the ffb is so shitty too date..... Only 4 cars have the new beta tire model No continual road ffb has been added into the game, making it feel like a smooth road surface. Problems with fanatec wheels, centering spring and osscilating issues causing the ffb to be eliminated and turns the wheel into just resistance. Apparently the quick fix is to instal logitech drivers. Also there is a clipping issue that distorts ffb effects, there's a tool available for checking clipping. They say it will take a few weeks to fix and they know the cause. With all the new implications and features beining added, ends up effecting each other in one way or another, and won't fully come together until all the chips are in play

I was browsing the forum today and decided to check out the car thread and was quit surprised and filled with joy when i read a few cars from ford alone that will be included on release day

1988 Ford RS500 Sierra Cosworth

2013 Ford Shelby GT500

2012 Ford Fusion Nascar

2013 Ford Falcon V8 supercar 4

and the ones that got me most excited the 2012 Ford Focus ST BTCC and BMW 3 series BTCC

BMW M3 E92 GT4

2012 RUF RGT 8

From the current car content there will be some good series that can be setup out of the box

retro BTCC, current BTCC, V8's, DTM, Retro DTM,GT2 & GT4, ALMS, Grand AM and Nascar  :)

Hopefully they will land a license with honda and toyota like they have in the past, could set up for a good  BTCC series.  Iam glad to see more devs are starting to acknowledge more over seas car series and realizing theres a pretty big following and demand for this content.

Strange how I was able to record with max settings and a 36 car grid using my 360 pad only a few months back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc7x4eztjGU&feature=youtube_gdata_player Now there's no chance. Would this be due to greater physics being implemented?

There's been a lot added in the past few months...textures, new AA track detailing , irradiance, 6 new cars a few tracks and sip tire model....none of which are even close to finished.  There's still a lot more that hasn't been implemented like STM , tire deformation, ffb and about 30 more cars plus 6 laser scanned uk tracks so iam afraid it will most likely get worse rather than better but it's getting there.

the biggest issue at the moment is the fsa investigation.

i had some time yesterday and for the first time in a while I fired up and tested all the new betas as well as iracing and it was pretty amazing how completely different  they were from one another.  Gonna be a lot of options available for the next gen racers

Yeah I read about the whole FSA thing. Cant believe those who threw their house into this based on a forum post that it might be an investment.

At the time it was deal that was too good to be true....sell 1 million copies over 4 platforms and make back x3 your money.  Forza 4 has sold close to 25 million copies to date.  So if you had the cash to drop its a pretty good deal.  Myself I was half way to a managers build before the funding closed.  Hopefully it gets sorted quickly and the project continues
