Shroud of the Avatar promises to deliver character based RPG gameplay. What say you?
I only played the very early Ultima games and I barely remember them. I remember ascii or vector graphic corridors and a D&D type stats system etc. but that's it....I hear a lot of people praise ultima online but I have never even seen that.
I have only ever played the first ultima Online. To me at the time it was exactly what i had imagined an MMO would and should be. You could break into houses, steal books and furniture, if you had the required skill, tame someones horse and ride off into the sunset. Or as you are walking out of a town, have a high levle wizard paralyse you, then let the newbie who just joined the ranks in his guild to gain experience by slowly killing you. It was great fun, frustrating as hell and scary when you left the safety of a city. I loved it.
My older brother used to play it constantly. I was still in my console stage where gaming with the homies on tekken and madden was king. I do remember watching him and seeing that it really was a no holds barred experience. I remember once him going ape shit over a player who killed Lord British? Was like one of the first water cooler moments in mmorpg history. He still to this day says that Ultima Online was the best one he has ever played. Calls me a pussy for starting with WoW.
Never played UO. Played a bunch of the single player games though.
