So my wife started playing roller derby two weeks ago. It seems like a really fun sport.
The organization she joined just started last year, so they've been recruiting pretty hard to get to increase the members. The new players are called "Fresh Meat", or "Meaties" for short. Most of them can barely skate, some can skate well enough to get around, and a few can't even stand still in a pair of skates.
On Saturday, they had a free skate session so that the women could get together for a social event and bring their families if they wanted. I went with Mrs. wam. I used a pair of rental skates. The rental skates are the cheapest made skates you could imagine, and they are not maintained at all. Picture walking on the beach with snow shoes on while draging a sled behind you. I got out on the wood (hahahahaha) and just motored around a little to get the feel for the skates. I did a few laps, then back to the sitting area where most of the people were sitting and shooting the breeze.
The coach, the president, and some of the players had seen make my laps. Mind you, this only the second time i had ever been on wheels, the first time being eight years earlier. I was immediately moved from "Widow" status (non-skating spouses of the players) to the skills instructor and "Meatie" coach.
As if i didn't have enough to do coaching two hockey teams already. Now they want me to become a referee also.
We've had two practices since then, and it's a ton of fun. They said the girls improved more in one practice with proper instruction then they did the entire month previous. They really enjoyed doing the drills and activities i ran for them as well.
My biggest hang up is that they practice on Tuesday nights from 8-10 pm. That's why i never made it on for clan night last night. Also, the hockey teams' Thursday practices/games ended last week. I thought i would now be able to participate in the site wide customs now, but the also practice on Thursdays at the same time.
I guess everything comes at a price.
On the up-side of things, I get to go out with 120 boobies three times a week and tell them how to stretch thier bodies into different positions, roll around on the floor, jump up and down, and kinds of good stuff like that...

Parcells is not seeing the problem Wam, sounds like a great opportunity. In fact, I really hope you let me know when you submit your first Penthouse forum letter I'll be sure to pick up a copy!
Yes I will be stopping by in the future, I love the thread! It is good to have a fun, random, kind of pointless thread. Next time I will enlighten you to the soap opera that is my life right now. Oh and could Really use some good shots of Hot Sweaty Roller Derby girls

So in random news, Knight finally has his car back on the road, the puzzle of water in the spark plug well has hopefully been solved. New hi performance plugs and HT leads have been fitted and the trusty Focus is running like a dream, those plugs were well needed, the low end torque is much improved so fuel economy should be better too. Now if I could just get my bleedin cats to stop trailing muddy paw prints al over it every time I wash it...
