Steering Wheel /Pedals options. Looking to upgrade

Hey guys

I’m currently running a Mad Cats 2 wheel and pedal combo that I picked up at Best Buy when I got the game at Christmas. Now that I’m getting more and more track time, I’m thinking of upgrading in a few weeks but have no idea on what is out there or where to find a good deal on one.

I’m looking to spend no more than $300 ($200 would make the wife happy) on a new wheel/pedal combo. Is it even possible? If so, what options do I have?

Go here and look at the different package deals they have. Some of the package deals they  have work with xbox360/ps3 and pc.

http://us.fanatec.com/index.php?route=module/configurator

They first and second package are the newest wheel available. The first package has no shifter set but you can just use the paddle shifters that are part of the wheel. The second package has the shifter set which is one H-pattern and sequential.

Good Luck!

There are two options with Fanatec but with taxes and shipping you'll be right at the upper limit of your budget or over it by a few dollars.
http://us.fanatec.com/index.php?route=module/configurator

Look under the Special Offers and Bundles.

Forza Motorsport CSR wheel value pack US: 249.95
Porsche 911 GT3 RS V2 Value Pack XL US:  259.95

Given the choice between the two the Porche 911 combo is the better deal since you'll be getting the CSR Elite pedals.

Mad Catz also sells a FFB wheel for the 360 but it costs almost as much as the Fanatec wheels and won't nearly have the same build quality.

I'm not sure what other FFB wheel options are out there that fit your budget short of trying to pick up a MS Wheel from eBay.

Thanks guys.  I think Im going to need to sweet talk the wife in upping the budget for this.

Forza Motorsport CSR wheel and the CSR Elite pedals (with inversion kit). I dont need the shifter as I perfer the paddles anyway.  Problem is there are no packages for it :(

I sent them an email so we will see

Is there anything to be concerned with (replacement parts, durability) with the wheel or pedals?

Thanks

keep your old wheel handy, The Fanatec is a very good wheel but they have problems.  I don't know to many owners that have been trouble free.  Their service dept is outstanding though.

Also check on the guarantee at Fanatec Heard people talking that all new wheels and pedals are only coverd for 6 months.

Fanatec warranty is now 2 years in the EU and 1 year for North America.

Like all electronics, problems may or may not occur during its life span. The thing I can say from experience is Fanatec at this time has excellent warranty customer support I have had one electrical problem and one construction problem with a striped bolt housing (bolt housing problem was all my fault ) and the response time was within a weeks time from reporting problem to receiving either new replacement wheel and striped bolt housing. So IMO shop with confidence if you decide to buy from Fanatec. One more thing if you have to save up for it do so you will be so much happier with there wheel than with any other aftermarket wheel that works with the Xbox360. I would even look at defferent forums. Here are 2 of them:

insidesimracing.com

thewayiplay.com

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks everyone for the input.  I will be placing my order for the Forza Motorsport CSR wheel and the CSR Elite pedals (with inversion kit) in a few week (early April) if all goes well.

I dont have the room for a full rig as I share the room with my wife and I dont want to push my luck before I get the pedals and wheel.  That said, I plan to make a similar stand as this only out of PVC.  I can then stand it up out of the way when not in use.

You will be very happy with that choice, I used my CSR for over a year and gave it dogs abuse, never an issue. Well the odd panic with firmware updates but nothing terminal. It is now retired and acting as insurance in case my elite ever craps out on me. I will say you may find a PVC stand based on those pics may flex, even though the CSR is only a single belt it has quite powerful FFB and weighs considerably more than your current wheel.

That's one the reasons I'm holding off on building it so I can see how big/heavy it is so I can adjust for it. I have some ideas on how to make it stable. If not I'll figure something out.

According to Fanatec's site, the CSR wheel package weighs in at almost 13 lbs and the Elite pedals weigh in at a touch over 15 lbs.  I figure you can shave a pound or two off to account for the packaging but if you build it to handle the listed package weights you should be good to go.

In looking at the pics of the stand you're modeling off of the supports that will go over your lap and rest on the chair should support the wheel when you're racing.  The weight of the pedals should also help to keep the stand from tipping towards you.

When you stand it up for storage you might consider making a seaprate support piece that will go from the bottom of the wheel straight to the floor to take the weight off the bend in the main column.

Its not about how fast or slow you are, its about how much fun you have driving. With that setup your sorted. Did I mention I hate you.
