have a gaming memory when you realized - "damn I'm old"?

I'm not talking those memories as a kid playing your Atari or your NES or your Commodore 64, those are going to be fairly common here.  I mean those moments you realized "wow that makes me feel really old!" do you have one of those?

For example (and the reason for the post), I saw on reddit where someone was taking their game boy color on a trip.  I was thinking back from my honeymoon when I took my original gameboy to Jamaica.  We would take turns playing pacman instead of going to the beach.  Then it hit me... That was 19 years ago...

I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has had a similar moment. Share away!

It will happen sometimes when I make movie or tv references in the lobby and then someone will say. What is that..

About a year ago I watched "The Wizard" which I'm sure many site members remember. The film was released in 1989 and it did NOT age well at all. But throughout the movie I was constantly reminded of my own memories from when I was a kid, especially the MINDBLOWING introduction of Super Mario Brothers 3 at the end of the film. That definitely made me feel old.

Also, my 5 year old has been playing the shit out of Lego Star Wars 2. I mentioned to him that my copy of the game is older than he is, and I remember playing it at the last apartment I lived in before he was born (I was 27 at the time).

It's weird you bring up the Wizard, not only was I just thinking about that movie a few days ago and how I wanted to watch it, what may be even weirder is that I've never seen it!  I see it's available on Amazon instant video, I'm gonna check it out!

Recently downloaded demo’s for Centipede, Missile Command, Tempest, and Battlezone.  But I can’t bring myself to buy them.  Because they cost more than a quarter.

As a film, it's mediocre. It screams late 80's and just isn't realistic. But if you're close to my age (I'm 33) you'll love it for the nostalgia factor alone.

I remember when i first saw the original gameboy.  Before than I had just single game handeld games like Merlin, Mattel baseball and football, simon, some boxing game.. things like that.  Then we were cross boarder shopping and I saw the gameboy with tetris for the first time in a toy store.  That's all i could talk about after playing it for 10 minutes was how much I wanted one, how great it would be to care 1 thing aroudn with game carts rather than 3 or 4 different games etc...  My gran went back to the store and bought it for me without me knowning and i got it for xmas that year, best xmas EVER!  followed closly by the xmas's she got my brother the Voltron robot and i got Omega Supreme and then later the year she got me a floppy disk drive for my commodore 128.  Damn she spoiled me !

But mostly i have the 'i'm old' feelings with movies.  Like some movie i fondly remember goin to see as a teenager releases their 20 or 25th anniversary edition and i'm like ..... say wuuuuut ?!

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you folks that Metallica's good stuff now qualifies as classic rock.

If that doesn't get you into the "damn I'm getting old" mood, google some current pictures of your rock heroes when you were graduating high school...

She still looks good to me.  Although I prefer the short haired version of her.

I get the feeling whenever I have to put in my birthdate to watch a game or movie trailer and when it comes to selectng the year I now have to scroll down the list to find it.

I used to rack up extra lives and sell the game to the guy behind me back when I played Asteroids...put in a quarter, string the saucers across the top of the screen and sell it to the guy behind me for 5 bucks. Ahh, those were the days...

Brilliant.  I kept playing until the older kids showed up to blow cigarette smoke in my face, repeatedly tag the hyperspace button, steel any quarters I had on deck, and eventually threaten to beat me up.  Your way might have been better.

I’m struggling with the decision to buy Gears: Judgement.  I’ve already played (and enjoyed) the entire f’ing trilogy.  Not sure I need another one.  Also played about 8 CoDs, 5.5 Halos and a few Battlefields.  I’m tired of those as well.  Not sure any of this makes me feel old.  Whining about seems to make me sound old.

it happens every so often, the most recent would be the realisation that my wife and i were having more fun playing Rampage, Xybots and Xenophobe co-op than any $60.00 tripleA game ive bought this year.

Saturday morning after beers/games ‘til 3 AM, I hurt.  Lots.  I used to be able to pull off “just one more checkpoint before bed . . . just one more checkpoint before bed . . .  just one more beer before bed . . .   ” syndrome without much suffering.  Since I turned 45 and/or built my kegerator, the mornings after gaming have become considerably more challenging.

Isn’t that some sort of controversial bikini wax technique?

Story of my life.

I have tried Forza.  I found that I’m more of a Rallisport Challenge 2 sort of guy.  Which doesn’t make me feel old, just outdated.

I still think that the original Contra has one of the best soundtracks of any game ever.
