Picking up my copy here in a bit. Well atleast I have some stuff to do around the house while I wait for it to install and update. Hopefully will be in later tonight.
So, I entered my code in my manual and the download stayed in pending mode forever. Then it all of a sudden showed as cancelled. What the heck was the code for? How do I get it to download now?
Severs seemed to settle down a bit by 9pm PST.... it was working barely when I got home from work around 5. Hopefully tomorrow they'll have more servers online to handle the usage.
IGN did a 30 minute quick look video of it while playing the earlier missions . They said it's fun and the action is good but the missions at least early on boil down to go here, kill shit and hold E on stuff. Which i agree with, i've said that in the mission feedback and surveys during the betas. IGN thought if Rage and Borderlands had a baby, Defiance would be that baby.

But let's be honest, tell me a game where that's not the case. You can boil Skyrim down to go here, slash shit and hold A on stuff. Whats going to keep me playing is there's a million different 'here's to go to.
I got to play for a bit last night. I enjoyed it, still learning the interface like how to mod a weapon. That one has me freaking stumped. Anyways over all I was having fun running the missions. I hope to be on there tonight and maybe find a few of you to group up with.

Yeah, this one had me stumped as well. I had to google it; I could see the menu for upgrades, but nothing was available. It looks like your EGO has to be level 100 before you can unlock the ability to modify weapons.
I stumbled on the menu that allows you to mod weapons. Ill pay more attention to it tonight so I can tell you where to go. It's actually easy once you find the correct menu.
Ya i agree, most games boil down to a frew repetitive steps. But many of them do creative things to mask what your'e doing, or give you some meaningful context on why you're doing something. I honestly have no idea why i'm doing what i'm doing in the game other than it gives me XP to do it. So it actually really feels repetitive to me, wehre as other games like Borderlands may be just as repetitive but they don't feel that way because of the other interactions along the way with creative characters or narratives or something. In defiance you get that in the story missions but the side missions lack anything to distract youfrom the formula so to me they feel really repetitive and not very exciting at least so far early on.
When I first loaded the game up, I wasn't very impressed. However, after a little time with it, I'm beginning to see the appeal. I plan on putting more time into it after work.
I was able to get in almost right away, then I kept getting dc'd from the servers for a bit. After all of that, I played non-stop for a few hours. Fun game, though the lingo is a bit annoying.
i've wandered off the main quest and started doing a 4part mission called serenity waters or something or another, i was just about to finish it up when the servers went down last night i sure the hell hope it doesnt reset the whole mission as it took me over an hour to get this far...i really want the gun you get for completing the quest...also last night i took the oppertunity to put all of the pre-order codes into the website, synch it up with my xbox etc, took upwards to 6 tries before i actually got a confirmation (for those that havent done this yet, just keep trying until it works). now to go into the ingame store and get my damn stuff!
im enjoying the game i just havent figured out how to do much of anything in it, im personally leveling my char and getting the best weapons possible for shadow wars...50vs50 multiplayer in the game world is freaking sweet.
Are weapons class based? I put in a few hours last night and was not able to get an assault rifle. I have shotguns, pistols, and sniper rifles galore though.

Your initial start weapons are based on the class you picked but after that I don't think it matters.
I found my first assault rifle in the store at the base and bought it. Haven't got one from a side mission yet.
The coolest mission I've done yet is the Episode mission that has the characters from the TV show. I hope to run in to some more of those.
I think your starting weapon is class based, but after a couple hours game time, I had all 22 inventory slots full and was throwing things away to make room for better weapons in every category.
Also, once I reached level 100 I was able to mod a weapon. First you have to buy a slot on the weapon, then open the slot which takes 10 minutes, then you can add an attachment.

Higher quality weapons often come with some or all attachment slots unlocked already. In which case you can just buy the mods and apply, no waiting then. Side missions are a good way to get higher lvl mods. So far I've not been able to find a way to replace or remove mods once attached; maybe I'm missing something but if not.. choose carefully.
I don't think the following is much of a spoiler but for those who really don't want to know anything about what is ahead..
The episode quests are worth doing early on. There's only a few of them and the last one gives a pretty decent purple assault rifle with 4 attachment slots. I did them on my own as soon as I got a vehicle; bit harder than the story quests at that point from what I remember but well doable and worth the effort.
And don´t buy the Duni Shetarru vehicle unless you have plenty of scrip. It costs 14.5k and you´ll get one for free later on. You can save yourself some money there.
I'm a bit confused about the servers and platforms. Before launch I read an announcement saying pc, ps3 and xbox players could play together but think they're separated now? Also read somewhere that xbox has regional servers and as we can't choose our servers that would mean that EU and US can't play together either (on xbox). Anyone know how this works atm?
The quick menu (D-pad right on xbox, dno about the other platforms) has a Find Player option . That should work as long as you know the other persons character name or gamer tag.
So I decided to give in and pick the game up tonight, will install tomorrow; so TANK, EVILCLAW, DARTH BILL, and a few other fellas I know, ole Garfy will be online this friday and throughout the weekend learning how to play; and I will hook up with anyone out there as well. Won't be able to paly the game as diehard as some of you guys, as Medical school is finally coming to an end for this year, so I'll be cramming for 10 exams to write (yippie) but I definitely will have the rest of the summer to play, there are only two games that have any interest to me later in the months (The Last of Us on PS3, and probably Grand Theft Auto 5)
I got the game for PC as the alpha and beta test had made good use of Eyefinity. Also, the incredible amount of free bonus items from pre-ordering on Steam was staggering. I must have had 80 things to claim in the game, and starting off with a selection of five vehicles is nice too.
No cross platform play, so I am unable to join the Defiance crew on 360.

I'm playing this on PC as well. You can add me on Steam: beefynutcase.

Yeah, just finished the tutorial, but the Arkhunter website is down so I can't claim my rewards from entering codes.
Seems a little excessive doesn't it?

Game sure seems like it has a lot of potential.

Has anyone seen any reviews for this yet?
This game really seems to be flying under the Radar. Even on metacritic, there are only user reviews available, no publichation reviews.

The server issues seem to be resolved. I haen't had any problems getting right in after the initial hiccup yesterday.

Waiting for amazon pre order to show up.

how do you find each other in game if you don't have ppl on your FL?

Any UK players? Add me if so.
