DEF - Show/Game tie in review
This is from IGN's review of the pilot, not much tie in at all between the two in episode 1 anyway.
If you’ve been playing Defiance on PS3, 360 or PC, then you might find yourself disappointed by how little the MMO intersects with the show. Sure, they’re set in the same world, but since the game takes place in the San Francisco bay, and the show takes place around St. Louis, the connection is already loose. Nolan and Irisa appear in the game in a few missions that serve as a precursor to how they end up around Defiance, but, again, it’s not overtly connected. If you’ve played you might recognized a few pieces of slang or character names they toss around during the pilot, but I can’t say that playing the MMO improved the show. Instead it’s more the inverse, as the show does a much, much better job of explaining and fleshing out the world in two hours than the game accomplishes in tenfold the amount of time. Hopefully the connection between the two grows stronger in the coming weeks, because for now it’s pretty weak.

I posted about the pilot episode in another thread, but yeah, other than the two main characters there was almost no connection. I didn't care for the first episode at all.
Aren't they supposed to actually affect each other though? Or is that limited to each TV episode just allowing new episode missions in the game and that's it?
I dont' think we're really going to see much of a Tie-in. Reason being TV shows are shot/edited and produced months ahead of when we view them. Where as the game is realtime. It's very difficult to have one really in any substancial way relate to the other. And what things may happen would have to be planned out in advance i'm sure so we're not going to see any dynamic stuff.
Where I see the biggest cross over happening is between seasons. They'll have months there were the world continues in-game and they could put events in the game , record the results and that would affect events in the season 2 show.
But i guess we'll see how it progresses. I think though that this tie-in stuff is just an overhyped gimmic.
To play devil's advocate I think people are jumping the gun to see a tie-in right off the bat. It would be cool for it to happen but what I'm thinking is at some point after seeing what the online population does in game they make contact on the show with the San Fran area and maybe reference some events. Sucky thing about nowdays everyone expects excellence right now with no wait or patience.
I actually liked the show, but I'm a sucker for sci-fi and I'm easy to please.gif)
Yes both are suppose to have an influence on each other. Thats why I was saying I think its too early to see them referencing stuff from the game. From some comments I read on other forums I think people truely believe that the show should be talking about every little thing happening in the game. Look I killed this boss why didn't they talk about that?!!! lol
TRION has spoken about how the two will affect each other on numerous occasions. I haven't been following any of the hype around the TV show, so i'm not sure if SYFY has said anything.
