Set a 1:37.759 with my own rank amateur tune.  Tourni, is the tune on your storefront?  I don't need an unlocked version as anything I would do to it would probably make it worse. :-)
My biggest issues at Laguna are turns 3 and 4.  Habitually I think I tend to turn in for T3 too early and maybe carrying too much speed into the corner.  T4 I tend to turn in too late although I'm getting better there.  Replay of may laps are up on my storefront if any of you want to take a look.  I think I called it Time Attack L7.  Lap 7 is where I set my fastest lap. For some odd reason XBox/T10 didn't like the word VAG in the file name.

The funny thing is I normally set my fastest lap on lap 7.

Spooky

Lines are good! Try to get a bit more exit speed on some of the turns - Its hard to tell when watching in a tune different to my car.  Your going to be on for a quick time :)

I had a store bought tune laying around for the '05 Elise (Gamertag -  ICR CATALYST) and took it out for some practice - 1:34.926.  Replay on my SF. Too bad it is an A Class tune...angry

Still good practice though.

I will run it again when I receive Tourni's B class tune.

Spent some time riding the VAG last night and also spent a bit of time on this time attack challenge wink

I thought I would post up a few of my observations with the dual purpose of hopefully helping others get faster but also to get feedback on whether I am any good at explaining this stuff! I give no guarantee any of my obsevations below will make you faster or that they will make sense but you never know!

General

1) Minimal throttle adjustments can be used to change the steering angle of this car, i.e. If you try a corner flat out and feel it pushing a bit wide, a tiny tiny lift of the throttle will get it to tighten

2) Going through the high speed turns with a small lift of the throttle on entry and then holding it at about 98% of full to keep the car stable as you get to the apex is faster than trying to get through flat out and losing the back end. Even a small slide on this track lose you more momentum than a small "lift and hold" does

3) If you can keep this car stable into a corner then its unbelievable how early you can get back on to the throttle. If you have a look at Tourni's replay for example there are various places where he is back on full throttle way earlier than you would be in most other cars

4) As an alternative to lifting off the throttle to shed speed for a couple of the faster corners, which can unsetle the car (expecially if you catch the inside curb), try short-shitfing up to the next gear, dropping in just below the main part of the power band, this will let you run a tighter line but let you stay on full throttle through most of the turn and exit. The best places for this are through turn 4 (I change into 5th as I turn in) and turn 9 (again into 5th on turn in).

5) Try not to take too much curb on the outside as you exit the faster turns, this loses you more speed than if you come through the turn a couple of mph slower but stay on the track. The clearest example of this is coming out of turn 6 and going up the hill to the corkscrew.

Specific

6)There are a few places where a lot of time can be found by getting one corner right and then carrying maxium speed/momentum through the next section with no braking, just the occassional small lift of the throttle. The main ones I have found are:

Turn 3 - Come out of this on full power, virtually flat through turn 4, can change up to 5th on turn in, and then flat all the way to turn 5 braking zone.

Turn 5 - A dab of brakes here and down to 4th, you can get back on full throttle while still turning in and then run out wide on the exit and up the hill, through turn 6 with a small lift then full throttle all the way up the hill.

Turn 8 - First turn of corkscrew chicance, once through here you can go virtually flat out all the way to turn 10.

7) Don't brake too late for turn 8 (first turn of cork-screw chicance). Its much quicker to brake a bit earlier for this turn, and then getting back onto full throttle as you go over the inside curb and head diagonally across the track down the seept decline into turn 8A and all the way down to turn 9.

8) Turn 9 - Almost flat and much faster if you can hold a tight line on entry and through the apex and then run out on to clip the end of the rumble strip on the outside as you exit before swinging back across the track for entry to turn 11.

9) Lastly, if you are looking for a couple of extra thousanths (!) you can cut turn 1, running along the wall at the apex wihtout dirtying your lap, just make sure you still have time to get right over to the other side of the track before braking for turn 2

As I said up front, I hope this helps some of you find a bit of time on this, sorry if some of its a bit confusing, but its the best I can do at the minute. I'd appreciate any feedback negative and positive on my observations as I would like to be able to get better at explaining this sort of stuff.....

Fantastic advice there Si, this is what the hotlapping ultimately teaches. Just how minute and delicate you can be with the throttle to get the car to change ALOT.

In most tunes I've found on this track, as soon as you make the turn into the corkscrew, and your left front wheel crosses the curb, I usually shift up to the next gear ( especially in cars with a lot of torque) and then flat plant my foot going down into the screw.

Two reasons, one it lessens chance of breaking the rears loose and two it's an extreme downhill and that really helps the car take advantage of the shift to gain momentum.

Guys,

what's the right way to take the last turn?  I seem to make a mess of it every time.....

Thanks!

Dave

brake hard, you must be off the brakes and getting the car to turn in so the inside curb it just touched.  Get back on the power as soon as you touch that curb :) 3rd gear corner.

No problem Dazjon, thanks for letting me know as i was able to restore it quite easily :)

It does mess up from time to time - I noticed i managed to delete peoples times whilst sorting.. I'm wary of it now.

Nice time btw!
