Grid 2: Anybody Getting It?

Just curious if anyone will be picking this one up. I'm tempted to give it a shot if only for a temprary distraction.

Got it preloaded on steam, will give it a blast, might come up with some cool liveries using the (albeit very limited) editor that i could make in Forza, but otherwise expecting a distraction at best.

For those that have it: please post a review for us.

I am very tempted to get it but feel like its smarter to save that money for the new console and a LE copy of FM5. I am particularly curious about the super touring cars, touring cars and the Indy Car DLC. And of course, the level of arcadeness in the physics. Thanks in advance.

Have requested it through library system to check it out.  They allow 1 weeks worth of fun before I return it.

After watching IGN's review, I'm thinking I will hold off on this one until it hits the bargain bin.

I'll be picking it up tomorrow, Grid was fun and Grid 2 will hopefully be just as much fun too!

After all, they're all just games (FM/GT included) and the only thing that matters is the level of enjoyment they bring!

Picked up and I've played a few minutes. First off, I have to play career mode in order to unlock the cars I want to drive and I don't know how long that will take. Not a good start. sad

How are people getting on? I may pick it up if it's going to last more than a few weeks. A few guys on Twitter have it for sale for 20 quid. (They don't like it lol)

So far I have only played the career mode. Physics lean strongly towards a Drift style. No tuning, and no options to tweak the responsiveness of the controller. Have not driven with the wheel only the controller. So far it's not worth the money. Wait till it goes on sale. Graphics are on par with Horizon. More for you later.

I've enjoyed the first couple of races after I got decent settings for the wheel! It's pretty much the same as Grid.

Day one DLC though, shame on you Codies!!

Leave more feedback later once I've played a little more.

Also, the games comes with an on-line MP code. If you buy it used you will have to purchase that code as well.

Yeah, Mapp. The DLC is expensive for what you get. At least each FM car pack had ten cars.

I picked up the game and have about 7 hours in single player and 1 hour in multiplayer. Here's a little amateur review of what I liked and didn't like.

Pros:

Fresh tracks. A good selection of circuits and closed off public road courses at beautiful locations.

The surroundings look really good in my opinion. Tire smoke and dust also looks pretty good as well.

The sounds are well done. Exhaust notes seem fairly accurate. Gear changes sound solid. I'm a big fan of exhaust popping and crackling in racing games and it sounds great in this one. Background noise and spectator sounds add to the experience well.

A great wheel selection in my opinion. It's not a huge selection, but it's quality. Even though the wheels are not branded in game, they're easily distinguishable and they all look really good.

I've always kind of liked Codemaster's menus and such. This menu system is fun and looks pretty good. It's got that typical Codemasters feel.

The damage looks great. I've had some pretty spectacular wrecks so far.

There's some interesting race modes. A few you have probably seen before and a few fresh ones.

Cons:

Handling physics. I wish the cars handled more like they're supposed to. It unfortunately has that expected arcade racer feel. It's really touchy on the controller, I find myself bumping lots of walls and other cars just simply trying to race clean. I even tried it on my old MS wheel and it was still a bit strange. It was smoother on the steering inputs, but I still found myself struggling sometimes to drive in a straight line.

No cockpit view on the 360. 'Nuff said.

In race music and the announcer radio guy. The music just isn't necessary and the radio guy was quite annoying. I had to shut his ass off.

Loading times. Lengthy loading times between certain events and when you're changing cars in the garage menu. It takes a while for the game to load the cars for display.

I wish there were more cars. They do have some nice cars in the game, but it would be nice to see more. And they classified the S15 Silvia under classic JDM? Really!?

The livery editor is restrictive and shallow. It would be nice to have more freedom, but then again maybe I'm too used to the Forza paint shop lol.

DLC. Just put it in the damn game you greedy little bastards.

No tuning. With the way the cars feel, I don't think tuning would even matter anyway.

Corner cutting detection. It's a cool feature that puts the hurt on the cheaters, but I've had it hit me a few times when I wasn't even close to cutting a corner. Seems like it needs some refinement.

My online experience so far:

Online multiplayer makes you start from scratch as far as your cars and stuff go. You now have money so you can buy and redo all of your paint jobs and wheel set ups, as well as having to buy the cars you want after unlocking them with your online level. You can upgrade the cars now in a very broad and generic fashion. The multiplayer menus are nice and look good. Multiplayer loading times are again lengthy. The lobby now hold up to 12 players as opposed to the usual 8 (I think. It's been a while...) The 2 lobbys I was in so far have been full of annoying, yelling jerkoff trolls. It was all pretty much a demolition derby. Multiplayer gameplay does however, look pretty good too. It also seems to run fairly smooth. I did notice some places on certain tracks where wall riding could be done effectively. This means opportunity for shitheads to cheat and piss off good folks like you and I.

Final thoughts:

This game will keep me entertained for a short period of time. I will likely just finish the single player mode and go trade it in since I don't see myself getting that much into the multiplayer side of it. Pick it up in the used bin if you wish to check it out.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I will wait until it's cheap and just get it for the single player.

I bought the PC version off Steam and have been playing it daily since release.  If you have a decent PC, particularly one with triple screens (I am talking to you Snappy!), you seriously cannot buy the game for Xbox 360 or PS3.  The graphics look amazing on the triples.  No jaggies, the AA you get with PC makes all the difference.  I am not even running the game at Ultra settings and it still looks great with a buttery smooth 60+ FPS.  The FFB is good with my CSW wheel, but as others have mentioned, the physics are pretty simple.  Yes, you can spin the car, but there are no undulations in the roads and you barely feel curbs and/or offroad.  Its the usual smooth Codemasters FFB.  I would characterize this game as "simcade", since it has elements of a sim (including good FFB, some physics and lots of wheel, pedal and shifter compatibility) and an arcade racer (outrageous cornering, little or no damage, etc.).  The tracks so far have been primarily Chicago or California fictional tracks, but I understand that there are real life tracks that come available later in the game, including Indy, Dubai and Monaco.

My only complaint is that my pre-order DLC is nowhere to be seen in the game.  I assume it will show up at some point.
