Kinect Questions

Rather than hijack the other thread, I thought I'd start a new one dealing with advantages of Kinect......

I guess I'm to old (or dense) to understand what the appeal is supposed to be.  I think it's a great idea for kids to be more active when they play, I just don't understand MS's enthusiasm for it being a gamechanger as a manditory device.

I've seen the stuff about acting as a remote control or signing me in automatically.  But what are the possibilities where it brings something new to the table in the world of gaming I'm not going to be able to live without?  If someone showed something at E3 that fits the bill, I must have missed it.

When this came up for Kinect 1.0, a naked woman (porn queen?) stood in front of the Kinect to test the built in pre-transmission porn filter. The Kinect correctly kept her private parts private. While the video is real, I don't know the details or truthfulness. The same is not true for what gets saved on your XBox. Stand in front of the Kinect naked and then show your neighbor the game shots by accident ... oops. Correct my info if you have something better but that is what I saw.

Did they transmit it? If there is a filter, I've never checked how to set it up.

two people in different locations on different kinects doing nekid things over kinects with each other. Idk what you mean by transmit..? Nothing was blurred. (Trying so hard not to break confidences and tell stories!! Lol)

yes. I mean yes to transmit not to the identities lol. Two people in a long distance thingy who missed being nekid together had quality nekid time through the kinect, while in different states. (I need to bleach my brain now.)

system voice control, video skype, active games, command your troops with words, etc.  there are a lot of new functions that will be implemented.  I didn't like the look of the first Kinect but this one seems pretty minimal and sleek.  It also doesn't move.

Has ability to track up to 6 people I think I remember reading, greatly increased tracking of the articulation of the body, voice recognition, facial recognition, truly there is a huge leap in potential with this hardware over the last.

One has already been made for gaming. The Kinect one is most liekly used to access the OS and features.

You'rs not too dense PDT, more likely you're just old. Parcells feels younger than you and I dont see the appeal either then I raed this..

This is literally the first useful benefit I've heard of with voice command. Parcells used to love real time strategy games (Age of Empires) but these days my dexterity/energy level-LOL can't keep up but with voice command I could quickly send orders...no idea how I could create specific built troops via voice but when created deploying shouldn't be difficult.

Sorry Kurupt.... Referencing 360 legacy headsets for gaming. I paid a ton for my a50s and want to keep using them. Not a rant about peripherals moving to new system again... Speaking of it as a work around. That is all.

I've got a pair of TB Earforce X41's myself. They were built for the 360, but also made periphrials so it could be connected to the PS3 and PC's. I hope they do the same for the XBOne. Otherwise it's buy a new surroundsound headset.

What does the kinect mean for me? It makes it easy for me to buy one as the wife can get her fitness games. That's it though lol

Kurrupt - the mic will not work with the One on any old headset.  However, you can still use your old headset with your 360, or sell it towards a One headset.

I'll be keeping my A50's for my 360's.

The kinect may not be a major game changer right now but could it possibly be the first step towards something really cool somewhere down the road? Things gotta start somewhere.

Nekkid funtime not withstanding, I find the Kinect a neat piece of tech. 107

My wife enjoys it for dancing games and I've used it a fair amount with exercise training. I'm actually looking forward to the next-gen Kinect to see what it can do. The only issue I have with mine is my play space is kind of limited, so sometimes it doesn't see me properly. The new sensor looks to be much better at seeing you and had a wider viewing angle.

All of my electronics are inside a built in cabinet thingy...I guess a kinect would have to go under my tv outside the cabinet. Im not sure how well that will work, but I'm not ripping up my living room for it lol!

Anybody know the limit to the distance between kinect and box? Xbox will be in cabinet on bottom shelf,  kinect on top of cabinet...

Hmm...I wonder if there are extensions for it if its not long enough? I had to get an extension cord for my wired controller cos I rock the recliner across the room from the Xbox, and wireless controllers piss me off.

This is my issue for the bedroom, if I ever wanted to get two and replace my 360 there as well - everything is run through the wall to the closet.  So I'd have to get an extension (proprietary) cord and run it out to set it on top of the TV every time I wanted to play.  Ugh.

Input lag, son.  Between that, a wired connection, wired headphones, and various monitors, you see all sorts of goodness.
