Now MS is saying that the 360 Headsets may work with the XBONE after stating previously that they wouldn't. It seems they really don't know what they're doing at this point, and that they are scrambling trying to salvage this whole mess they've gotten themselves into. Their biggest mistake IMO is that they tried to be something other than a video game console. A lot of the features they were touting on this system can be had on most smart tv's these days, skype included.
Dixon makes a good point in regards to waiting this one out. I'm certaintly in no rush to grab a new console on day 1. I'm still going with ps4 at this point, and might even consider picking up a ps3 on the cheap in the meantime and play the games on there that I've been dying to play.
Well I said I wasn't going to buy either the PS4 or Xbox 1, until later down the road; but of course I've already plucked down money for both (I'm a gamer plain and simple); don't get me wrong Microsoft really pissed me off with their attitudes and forcing shit down my throat that I really don't care about; hell I have barely been able to play "The Last of Us" because of my work schedule and medical school, so I'm sure I'm going to have lots of time fucking around with the Kinect in order to get a better TV experience.
As for headsets, I could stand to get something good for the Xbox 1, seeing all I have been using for the 360 is the Halo Reach earpiece, but I recently purchased the Sony Impulse headset (the really good ones) and I hope that Sony will allow them to be used with the PS4???
As for the games, Killzone: Shadowfall will be must as a launch title for the PS4 (have enjoyed the MP with clan members), other titles that are 3rd party such as Watch Dogs, I will have to decide which system I want to play them on, or if one system is offering better features or exclusives such as Destiny is getting exclusive content for the PS4. There are other games that strike my interest in regards to potential for clan matches, The Division is one of those titles, and could The Order 1886 be something of worth interest??? kind of reminded me of a Victorian Era version of Hunter the Reckoning.
I guess time will tell how either the PS4 or Xbox 1 will succeed or fail this time around, but so far Sony has seamed to learn from it's past mistakes and actually listening to the consumer.
I jumped from a 360 to a PS3 back in April mainly because I don't care to game online anymore. I have my money plopped down to grab the PS4 at launch but with a lot of the titles I'm interested in i.e. Watch Dogs, Thief hitting current gen consoles I don't think I need that shiny new box on day 1 now.
MS has already said there is a day one patch. So you have to connect to the net, dl the patch then you don't have to connect ever again.
I'm sure they are pretty happy about it.

Shoot, if you grabbed a used ps3 and played the highlites of the catalog you'd be set for 6 months to a year at least.
