Gran Turismo 6 - Playstation 3

Well, I have noticed a fair amount of discussion about this game, and so its probably good to have a thread to talk about it.

First, it is coming this year.  I have no doubt about that.  There is no official release date yet.

Second, its coming for Playstation 3.  PD is considering a Playstation 4 version, but don't hold your breath.

Third, a demo is coming next week on July 2.  It looks like it will have all Nissan cars, but its not clear what tracks will be available other than Silverstone.

Fourth, expect your Fanatec, Logitech and Thrustmaster wheels to work just fine with it, just as they worked with GT5.  No bullshit M$ like antics here.

And finally, there are already some pre-order incentives, including a 20 car pack from Game Stop and a $1 million credits deal from amazon.

Here is a link to the news page at gtplanet, where you can find all of the detail you want:

http://www.gtplanet.net/

So, who is getting it?  I know I am.  In fact, I need to order three copies of the game for my triple screen set up.  wink

Trust folks are also reading the article a little further down that page about the path two of the winners of the GT Academy/GT5 competion have achieved in getting to Le Mans.

Perhaps there is still hope for all you wannabe race car drivers...smiley

I've had the PS3 since the launch of GT5 so I suppose its time to purchase a second game for that console so yes Parcells is getting it.

Demo is coming next Tuesday, but apparently will only be playable through the end of August.  I guess I better get my time in during July and August.

Sticking with the 360 for a while.  Even though I have GT 1,2,3,4.  They are fun games but my budget with college expenses can only handle so much.  It would mean also buying the PS3.  Wife would kill me.  Justifiable Homicide.  Or kick me out.  Who would like to board me for free?  Because she will rightly leave me with nothing but my good looks and a couple of used speedos.

What i've seen, i've liked so far.

Particular interesting into the aero dynamic modeling, suspension movement and tyre deformation.

I'm interested to know more about track creating, night racing, wet weather racing and the usual tyre wear, fuel strategy.

:D

They've already got variable weather & time of day in GT5, so it shouldn't be too difficult for them to expand the tracks that have it availble for GT6.  In 5, there are only a few of the bigger tracks that you can set weather & time for.

I guess I really should go find some info on GT6.....haven't seen/heard anything other than it's coming this holiday season.

IMO, the best source for GT information is gtplanet.net.

There doesn't seem to be a whole heap of information out about it yet Sherb, I'm keeping an eye on it all.  But so far its 90% GT over Forza for me.

Do you know if the tracks can be shared amongst friends? ie i could make bathurst or some thing?

The track creator in GT5 isn't that plottable.  Basically you pick a terrain (how hilly do you want it), track size, then you start adding corners (installed by the sector, not per corner) based on technicality (1-5 IIRC).  I don't recall if you can share (via sending), but I know others can run on your track if you host a race.....I may have inadvertantly done this during one of the Thursday night GT5 runs.  156

It's pretty basic, but does add a bit of variety for sure.

And if you want to run Bathurst, you should get rFactor.  We've got a couple versions that we run at GBR (most of whom are from here).  And you can probably pick it up for cheap (got mine for $20).  Doesn't take a very powerful computer to run (at least on a single screen), and since you've got a CPU that can run GW2, you got more than enough horsepower for rF.

That said, I still would really like to see Bathurst on GT6.  Bathurst is probably my favorite track I've run on.

Aah okay, well i guess that figures.  I think i was being a little optimistic about the configuration, after all it does take a few experts to actually measure/scan the tracks. :)

Still, I'm pretty sure we could make some awesome ones an maybe even an aproximation of a track..

I did make a dirt track once that turned out pretty well but unless they incorporate more flexibility you cannot define any one specific corner with attributes such as length and radius. Still a hell of lot better than nada.

Decided to blow the dust off the PS3 and fire it up to update the system and update GT5. Does anyone with a Fanatec want to share thier settings for the wheel and ingame settings to compare what I have? What choice of wheel sets did u choose since fanatec isn't a choice and is there not a proper clutch?

Here are my Fanatec wheel settings:

FFB - 100

SENS - 900 or OFF

SHO - 100

ABS - 85

Deadzone - 10 (very important, otherwise wheel will vibrate badly on straights)

Everything else - 0 or OFF

In-game, all you need to do is adjust the FFB to your taste.  I personally use 8 out of 10 for my CSW wheel.  You might need to go 9 or 10.  The wheel is automatically detected as a G25 so unless you want to map controls, you need not select a pre-set.

There is a clutch, its just really strict compared to Forza.  Misshifts are common, at least for me.  To use the clutch, just hit it before you go into the race to calibrate it.

Here's what Parcells uses (Elite). Mind you I'm not overly picky about these things.

FFB - 80

SENS - 500

SHO - 100

ABS - 70

Everything else - 0 or OFF

In-game,

Steering - Simulation

Power Steering - ON

FFB - 4 - the GT5 help text says this setting only applies to 2 wheels something Pro and GT but not the G25/27 so if the fanatecs do default to G25 maybe it has no affect? Dont know dont care.

So you just tap it before each race or press it all the way down and back up? Have yet to get it to engage in practice or arcade mode. Exactly when do you hit it? on the rolling start or before you get that far or when u pick track???

If my memory is correct,For mapping the button on the fanatec wheel, you go to  driving pro in the wheel options.

To activate the clutch in GT5 you need to start the race and once you are moving you press "triagle" once while on the throtle. Clutch activated, be aware that each car has a different bite point on the clutch. i.e. One car you can just punch the clutch and on the next you realy need to clutch.... shift gear..... let clutch out. I will be getting GT 6 in the hope it is what 5 SHOULD have been IMO offcourse.  PS why isn't my enter key working on the forum?

Wow getting back into GT5 reminds me how dissappointed I was with the game. Looks like FM3 graphically but without the customized paint jobs. The physics seem good but I just don't feel connected with the pavement tho. I feel the weight jacking of the car and slip points, but I just don't get that bite of the pavement. Man I hope GT6 is a huge improvement lets see what they can get out of the ps3 hardware cuz FM4 looks incredible considering the 360 hardware. I guess I just prefer being able to make any car your own, with awesome paint and a car setup to get it to run the way you want it, not what your stuck with more or less.

Cant argue the paint but you can tune the cars in GT5 to your liking its just a hell of a lot harder than FM4; No telemetry in GT5 sucks for tuning (for me it does) and not being able to change the tune in pause mode makes it extra time consuming and frustrating but it can be done and certainly affects your car. Generally speaking the GUI shortcuts in GT5 are embarrassing.

I really hope Polyphony have actually looked at the racing genre around them and realised the importance of stuff like livery editors, how they create and foster a community. Imagine being able to paint all 1200+ of GT6's cars, that would really be something.

What would really be something is if Polyphony allows you to purchase any one of those 1200+ cars when you want to instead of by pure random which could take you weeks or months to find the car you're looking for.  I'll buy the new game regardless but I'll be some disappointed if you cant purchase any car when you want to.

I agree Parcells.  The Used Car Dealership ("UCD") is PD's thing that makes the GT series distinctive, but it has lost whatever luster it once had.  I get that it is part of the game, that you need to make the money, but also time it just right.  But after 2 1/2 years of searching for cars via the UCD, including this past weekend, I have tired on the concept and would rather have all cars available for purchase.  Period.

By the way, my garage is now over 1200 cars, but I don't think I have every car yet.  LOL!

GT5 continues to be my favorite video game of all time.  Period.  There simply is no other game that has kept me this interested this long.  I started playing GT5 in November 2010, the day it was launched and I picked up my copy, and am still regularly playing it.  Amazing...

Yea it is amazing! I couldn't do it, too sterile for me to play like Forza. I just can't connect with the game like I do Forza, suppose that has something to do with the customization allowable and how the tracks feel and look more alive to me in Forza, plus FM4 just is so much easier on the eyes. This is sad for me cuz I was a hardcore GT fan forever, fan but not hardcore anymore but hoping with GT6 changes in tires, physics, etc it will be more palatable.

Just goes to prove "to each their own" cause Parcells thinks the overall physics package of GT5 is better than FM4's (not by a big margin, just a regular margin) especially in the tire department...granted you can't change tire width but you have 9 different tire compounds (3x3) for every car and you can change the wear rate (4 settings) on each compound, way better than FM4.
