JW Blue! I am not a huge fan of scotch but I never pulled the trigger on a good bottle out of fear I wouldn't like it.

To be honest I like gold better than Blue. Actually if you line them up they all taste good straight.  There is a sampler pack out there so you don't have to drop $250+ on a bottle that you could not necessarily like.

Rowan's Creek Bourbon.

This is one of my favorite bourbons. It cost under $40 at most shops.

Eagel rare has been on sale at our local Liquor Store for $22.99 a bottle so I've been drinking it for about a month....best deal out there.

http://www.daneson.com/collections/front-page/products/singlemalt

Our Single Malt Nº16 is a SELECT    batch premium blend and as a result it has a higher price.  This is because they are made with very old, very good, very expensive single malt scotch and are a pain in the arse to make.  This time consuming process is unique to Daneson, and the resulting toothpicks are for those who enjoy finer things in life.

In my never ending quest to bring value to this thread, I have been sampling various bourbons trying to find a cheap, palatable alternative to really good quality stuff.

Jim Beam Ghost.  Nastiness in a bottle.  Has the same sour aftertaste as rum.

Ancient Age 10 star.  Made by the Buffalo Trace distillery.  Not to be confused with regular Ancient Age.  $26 for a gallon in the state controlled stores down here.  I quite like it and it's the cheapest bourbon I can drink the way it's supposed to be, room temp.

Tried the Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace brands again.  Neither are mixing drinks, don't blend well with fizzy cola or ginger ale.  Very good, but I tend to drink both too fast and finish my capacity in about an hour and sit around with a stupid expression on my face the rest of the night.  The expression is not that different from regular nights, but the activity level is.

Alas, I'm having to seriously curtail my sampling.  Recovering from the most severe gout attack I've had in 5 years and just found out alcohol is a contributing factor.  It's true, do all the good stuff while you're young because once you hit 45, the will is still strong for debauchery, but the flesh is weak.

I love Eagle Rare, it's become one of my favorite bourbons to drink straight.

Bulleit American Rye Whiskey and the regular Bulleit Bourbon are both very good and very reasonably priced. I believe the Rye is like $39 and the Regular is like $29

Right now, American Rye whiskey is getting it done for me. Never tried it before this year.

We took some fresh picked black cherries and filled a mason jar with them. I filled the jar with some High West. Just cracked it open when I was on vacation. 3 of us killed that in one night.

Highland Park, Dalmore and Glenlivet usually make up my rotation...

I don't like to mix it, just a little water usually.  I got some of those whiskey stones to chill without adding too much liquid which helps me control the taste more.  One of the weird things I do that my friends make fun of though is that I enjoy a little sip of sprite every 2nd or 3rd sip of scotch...it is weird, but it kind of acts like a bit of a pallet cleanser (kind of like a sorbet at a nice dinner) and refreshes the scotch taste.

Fade, the Sprite thing makes sense. I kind of like something to clean off my pallet while sipping bourbon also but I usually just use a glass of clean really cold water.

My usual bourbon lately has been the Elija Craig 12 year, love the nose and it's smooth. I did however notice something interesting this Pheasant season.

I was out hunting with friends so I took a flask full of the Craig. After we had been stomping a good portion of the day I pulled from the flask and was surprised at how different it tasted. At first I thought I was imagining things as it tasted exactly like a very good orange marmalade. But, I let a couple of my friends have a dram who are also whiskey drinkers and they agreed with me on the flavor difference. So, when your out getting your blood up (and you aren't driving, I was pretty mellow by the time I got home after the flask and a couple of pints of Killians Red for lunch) try a bit of bourbon, the old timers had it right.

My very own concoction.

MAPLE SLIDER

Ingredients:
2oz Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum
1oz Maple Syrup (pure) (cold)
4oz Diet Pepsi (cold)
Ice

Instructions (it helps)
In glass measure add Rum followed by Maple Syrup
Stir until completely mixed. Pour into drink glass.
Pour Diet Pepsi into glass measure. Stir a bit to get remnants of syrup. Pour in to drink glass.
Add a good amount of ice. Seems strange to add ice last but if done first, the syrup congeals quickly and likes to stick to the ice and bottom of the drink glass.

Drinking Instructions
This one of those drinks that just slides right down. It's very easy to consume quickly and in volume.

I just have top add Dragon Milk aged in whikey barrels preceded by New Holland's Whiskey that supplied said barrels. If this doesn't make you happy or put you to sleep, well...

Freeradikal, 1) eagle rare is my favorite whiskey out there. Especially because of the bang to buck ratio. 2) where did you get that Elijah Craig barrel proof? I can't find anything besides the regular stuff.

That was a limited edition, you might have to inquire direct to the company to see where it sells. I can still feel the burn on that one.

Old Scout 120.6 proof; great for manhattans; still hooked on Woodford Reserve because our local neighborhood liquor store is selling it for $33.

My bottle is more like 132.6 proof, a little pricey at $75 but I'll make it last.

Updated site deserves new post on the thread.  FreeRadikal, I'm a fan of Woodford Reserve as well.

Recently picked up bottles of Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban (port cask finish) and Glenfarclas 21 year old.  Saving the 21 for a special occasion.  Next up I'll probably try Lagavulin 16 year old, an acquaintance that is into smoky scotches is a big fan.  Heard it's ~$62 at Costco.
