He holds it at 311mph, but in the 1.5 mile categorie and overall on bike. He was trying to break 300 mph in a mile or less...

I know dragsters do this routinely but what's the drag bike record currently, anyone know?

Unfortunately, when you push the limit.  Stuff like this happens.  I'm amazed it doesn't happen more.

Pretty much this.

Its a shame people die but I think its just part of the Thrill. (well not getting killed but almost)

Look at that dude who walked over the Grand Canyon the other week. If he fell off would anyone have been shocked?

I hear people say this a bunch....I disagree completely. Racers are not seeking a  thrill received because of the risk. The thrill is in the competition...Competition is why there are professional bowlers, billiard players, fisherman and an entire list of competitors who don't have any risk of danger.

I'm not sure that my idea applies to the kind of racing in this thread. I don't really view it as racing, with little or no competition other than from the competitors machines themselves.......If you have some skills and the balls to do it you can be a successful land speed racer. IMO

Yeah I don't mean racing as in against other people. Its always sad news to hear a driver as died.

Its more when people jump out of balloon 120,000ft in the air or off a building with a chute etc

I think some of it may be ego, I dunno.

These are people trying to get their name at the top, not in a race, but in a record book.

He had the land speed bike record at 311mph, but it was over 1.5 miles, he was attempting 300mph in 1 mile or less.

Sad thing is, we can't ask him now.
