FinAL fANTASY mmo BETA... aGAIN....

There is a complete overhaul for this game. The menu interfaces have been redone, the game is "controler friendly" now and you will see a PS3 console launch. They borrowed alot from the more popular western style MMO games. Things like a dungeon and quest finder were added.

Or so the grape vine reports.

Interesting... if it gets good reviews it could be the push I need to get a PS3, with so many great exclusives they're getting this year. As long as the announcement Sony is making on the 20th isn't the PS4, otherwise I'll wait.

Be careful... If the game is a complete retool then there will be 2 week free cards or an open beta. If the game is rehashed garbage then it will release with none of that and the fallout will likely be Spirits Within bad.

NDA slowly being lifted. I played this past weekend and was completely amazed. Even the wife, who hated every aspect of FFXI, wants in when this comes out. The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is extreamly friendly. Definate purchase on both PC and PS.

They were my screenies. At the time I believe pics were allowed just not video or streaming.  Phase 4 of the beta this last weekend saw some more improvements and I'm looking forward to the release next weekend with early access.  They had phase 4 capped at lvl 20, but from everything I've seen so far it looks like it will be an amusing time waster for me till Destiny comes out.  Combat is fairly fluid and difficulty escalates between solo and party play in that while in a party adjoining creatures will aggro mobs you pull while in solo play they don't. Also. the special attacks feature is a nice addition, when enemy mobs do their special attack it shows you the area of attack and gives you 2-3 seconds to exit before being hit.

Crafting actually looks intriguing and I plan on getting into it more after release.  Gathering points are not shared so you don't have to worry about getting there first. There are probably a few things I could nitpick about, but at this point the game looks fairly solid...have to see how the rest plays out and end game is reached.

It certianly was fun to play. I give it a thumbs up.

Beta over. Game release on 8/27/13. With the complete failure of FFXIV orginal, it's almost like SE folded and said, "Fine, don't care anymore, give the fanbase whatever they want". What's resulted is probably the best, user friendly MMO I have ever played. Not over complicated, not easy mode. The game balances to what/how you are playing. Graphics are on par or slightly better than Rift. UI is alot like SWTOR. SE still knows how to write a good story. A lot of the story is borrowed from FFXI, but anyone who's played that game knows why they would do that. It was a very rich, well told storyline.

Only gripe right now is the population issues. Easy to see that  SE has become completely overwhelmed by the amount of people joining. They are bringing on new servers, cutting off joining overpopulated servers and generally scrambling to do what they can.

The other thing is that this MMO, like FFXI, is completely playable with either mouse/keyboard or a controller. I played my years of FFXI on controller, but after leaving there and playing other MMOs, I moved to mouse/keyboard. People say that this game is comfortable and natural on a controller, but I haven't tried yet.

Anyone who's played FFXI will remember the only mount in game was a Chocobo. They are still there, but finally, there are more :)

It is a nice game. I put it in the must buy catagory. I had given up on SE too.

The servers can't stay up for more than a couple hours at a time. The game is crashing quite regularly at the moment.

Yeah, very poorly planned launch. Servers overwhelmed, no room. Worst part of it is the server locks for creating a character. Me and the kid are on Gilgamesh because we made them in beta. Now wife has her access, but can't create a toon on the server. SE basically saying to just get everyone in linkshell to move servers and start over. I'm still giving them a break, I know it's overwhelming them. Might end up just starting over with the wife and kid on different server just so we can play together.

It will take a month to stabilize and there will likely be world passes handed out.

Bit of a necro I guess, but anyone play this still? It's on sale on PSN, picked it up.

I'm playing on the Excalibur server, would be great if we had more people.  Especially to do the coil, and EX clears.  With 2.2 coming out soon, opening up CT, and Coil 1 to the DF.  As well as losing the 1 drop per week limit on both is going to open up a lot of gear farming for Coil 2.
