Man I hope they figure something out. I still want to get a fanatec rig someday. Especially after seeing that madcatz unit they revealed for x box one, seems like its gonna be shit.

I have been practicing my driving in F4 with the pad.  I figure if my current Fanatec doesn't work I'm gonna wait for a while to see what wheels get released and see the feedback.  I am still kinda dissapointed by what Thrustmaster has shown so far, was really hoping for a t500ish wheel.  Who knows though til more info is released.

Hmmm, spending some time with the pad. How's that working out?

Well in the lower classes, F thru C I can do okay.  I noticed on long turns though that I can't hold a smooth line.  Once I get into B class and above hell I can't even stay on track.  F1 2012 I can't even play, the car is so twichy that I end up in the wall.   So basically overall in a short answer, shitty!

I can no longer race with a pad and have lost hope that my CSW wheel and Clubsport pedals will work with the Xbox One.  Therefore, I went ahead and canceled my Xbox One and Forza 5 pre-orders.  It is looking more and more like the only options for Xbox One will be the new wheels from Mad Catz and Thrustmaster, which both appear to work only on the Xbox One.

I will admit that both wheels look like a step up from what Thrustmaster and Mad Catz typically sell (T500 aside), but I cannot get another wheel, particularly if it won't work with my PC and/or won't be an upgrade over my CSW.  M$ should allow USB compatible wheels to work on the Xbox One, like Sony is allowing such wheels to work on the PS4.

What's this? Lawyer losing hope on Fanatec? Parcells hasn't even lost hope yet and I'm much more cynical than you are :) Of course I have no preorders nor will I be getting FM5 or an XOne if my Fanatec wheel does not work but for reasons unknown I still think Fanatec will come up with something if only after the launch.

p.s. Last few weeks in GT5 we've had almost a full room and last week I don't even think we had to boot anyone because of them being an arsehole so hope to see you on some time buddy and we certainly understand why you're not able to make most weeks.

Part of the reason I canceled the pre-order was my inability to use the controller anymore for any racing game.  Another reason was that I was told by a M$ employee who is working on the Xbox One that Fanatec wheels would not work with the Xbox One.

I should be back tonight for GT5.  I am very much looking forward to it, it has been too long.

That is a true statment as of right now however Im hopeful that a USB cable and firmware update will solve this problem for the Fanatec wheels

May I ask what this MS employee does/is responsible for? This would be major news as far as I'm concerned.

Not suggesting its not correct, but I'd like to get a perspective on whether I really need to consider another wheel. If your source is 100% reliable just send me a sign, wink or something. wink

Right now I'd give a great deal for a final answer, not unconfirmed or vague info such as from fanatec.

I am confident that he is in the know.  That being said, it is nonetheless possible that Fanatec will come up with an adapter that will do the trick.  I am just not confident that is going to happen by the time the Xbox One and Forza 5 are released and I do not want to even try to play Forza 5 (or any other racing game) with a controller.  If Fanatec releases an adapter, I will be at Best Buy to buy an Xbox One and Forza 5 the same day I receive the adapter in the mail.

Mrs. Lawyer is at the inlaws with the kids until tomorrow, and work is pretty quiet right now.  That means that I am good to go for GT5 tonight as soon as I get home from work.  Beer, college football and GT5, does it get any better?

make no mistake, Fanatec WILL have a wheel, but it might not be the old one you have now...They'll definately release a new one.

I agree, but given M$'s proprietary bullshit, Fanatec will have to pay whatever licensing fees they owe from the 360 and pay whatever is required for the Xbox One, in order to make an Xbox One compatible wheel.  I definitely see them doing something new that is PC and PS3/PS4 compatible, the question is whether they will do something that has Xbox One compatibility.

To be honest, I really wish I could still race with a pad.  I did that for many years and enjoyed it.  Over the last several months since I sold my Elite I have tried and tried playing Horizon and Forza 4 with my game pad, but have had no luck in getting comfortable again.  Having a good quality wheel and pedal set has completely changed how I race, such that I can no longer sim race without them.

I think Parcells still has the ability to use a controller (probably suck big time) but that's a moot point because I would never race without a wheel ever again as the immersion factor takes too big of a hit.

This whole situation is completely ridiculous.  IMO, it is highly inappropriate for M$ and Fanatec to sell official Forza Motorsport wheels that will not work with the next version of Forza Motorsport, even though the technology is clearly there.  The official wheels for Gran Turismo, the Driving Force GT and T500, both will work with not only Gran Turismo 6, but also the racing games on the Playstation 4.  I no longer own the CSR or the Elite, but if I did, I would be even more furious than I already am.  Thousands of people around the world, including many of you, made significant investments in Forza Motorsport branded Fanatec wheels, but at this point, it looks as if you are stuck with a controller for the foreseeable future if you want to play Forza 5.

I am not sure a class action suit is the way to go, but at the very least, a complaint to the consumer protection division of one or more State Attorney General's offices might be in order.  It seems to me that it is deceptive advertising to call something the official wheel of Forza Motorsport and then have the wheel not work with Forza Motorsport.

@Poids - I thought Parcells heard when the XOne was announced that MS made a blanket statement that current 360 peripherals will not work with the XOne. Nothing specific about Fanatec but a general statement about all current peripherals??

@Lawyer - Exactly my gripe too...my wheel has an official FM MotorSports emblem right in the middle of it...it does not say FM4, just FM and it was marketed as such when sold, Its total bullshit. See you later.

@parcells....that was a blanket statement that included headsets and look at the 180 that happen with that.

Thats also one reason Parcells still has hope. I've also been imagining how Fanatec could figure out a way to make the Elite wheel work with the XOne.

Has anyone thought of the possibility that MS didn't let Fanatec in until late in the game?  Just saying, if they had some kind of exclusive contract with Madcats and Thrustmaster maybe they didn't let Fanatec in after such a rough release of the Elite during F4.

I have always just thought it was funny how I could take my CSR and plug it into my Windows pc using a USB, even the PS3 allows it to be plugged in with a USB.  But the box made by MS won't work with it plugged in via USB because MS had to ensure it was programmed differently.

Could you imagine though if they figured out a way to get the clubsport wheel working with the xbox 1.

@all

My concern is that we end up with misinformation presented as fact as happens over at FM.net.

The genuine truth is that no one knows, and anyone who suggests they do, deserves a kick up the arse for pretending they might. And if I'm wrong, then have the courage to go public!

Get a fucking grip. I'm starting to despair of our sensibility.

Don't say it won't work unless you fucking know 100%. If you don't, then fuck off 100%.

POIDSLY is getting very annoyed, and imagines that Parcells may provide him with a murder death kill template, very soon.

I concur Poids. But if I might add: This is due to T10's annoying practice of providing a slow drip of information about Forza. I hate it. Remember the Porsche DLC pack reveal that took 30 days to go through? One car reveal per day. Unnecessary.   HATE IT!

We will know soon enough either way. Almost September now. Why not play some Forza 4 with each other and have some fun instead of stressing about something that hasn't happened yet.

Sorry about my more vocal than usual post last night. Work is kicking off and wine was flowing in torrents (amongst them a very nice Burgundy though by the time of my last post it might as well have been battery acid for all I cared).

The whole Fanatec thing is dumb, and I resent the drip feed, as Snappy identifies.

Do I care too much? Should I take it all less seriously?

Answers on a post card.

Cheers

I also don't like the drip feed approach.  When Turn 10 and M$ did the Xbox One unveiling with Forza 5 as one of the launch titles, they should have divulged much more information at that time, including wheel information, much as they did in the Spring of 2011 with Forza 4 and the Fanatec wheel information at E3 2011.
