Having never played the PC version, I can't really relate to how the auction house effects the game. However, I can say that finding Rare and Legendary upgrades for my character is extremely rewarding on console.

Going on Twitch and watching PC players stream characters (mostly barbs) with the same stats is kind of boring. They just go to the auction house and buy a Skorn and Immortal King's armor and then play.

Playing on console, I can actually find upgrades in the game and try out different combinations and have the satisfaction I found these upgrades instead of just buying them from the AH.

I think once the PC players get a taste of the new smart loot system from the consoles, they will find a whole new game.

Also, kudos for Blizzard for stepping-up and making this decision.

That was the issue. You didn't find them on the ground. You found them in the Auction House. It's even been improved since release last year. I have 5 lvl 60 toons, before the update to improve it I had found maybe 2 legendaries and zero set items. The damage had already been done though, better off getting gold, and buying upgrades.

Getting rid of both the gold and money auction houses, the incoming loot 2.0 changes and the expansion are all awesome changes coming to the PC version.  I'll probably dust it off and give it a go again.

Funny D3 ignited my passion for playing action roll playing looters again but it's the one i spent the least amount of time playing.  I jumped on Path of Exile late last year when it came out of closed beta and this summer have spent the last 3 months playing Marvel Heroes.  When the expansion drops for D3, i'll come back and see if it's turned inot the game we all wanted D3 to be by that point.  If it is, it'll be too bad it took them 2 years to get it to that level.

I can't see any reason to play this on console, the diablo series is a 'hobby' game and with new consoles dropping in 8 weeks, i just don't see the point.  Besides that it looks better on PC and it's first and foremost a PC title so all the changes / dlcs will come to PC first.  It's good though to see if there's a market on the consoles for this type of game which has thus far been under represented in my opinion.

Why play it on consoles? That's easy - The Loot!

The loot changes made for consoles is so much better than PC - according to PC players that switched. The fun behind playing and playing Diablo is the idea that your next encounter could drop that one piece of loot that will give your character a big stats bump.

For instance, last night as I was finishing my run through Inferno, I found probably 6 upgrades to my character - 4 Legendary items and 2 Rare items. I got a nice bump in Vitality and an approximate 20k DPS increase. This was in about 2 hours of playing. I also had 2 other Legendary drops that were not upgrades.

Rarely has there been a night where I have not found an upgrade of some kind for my character. Granted, now that I'm a level 60 and working on Paragon levels, I fully expect my upgrades to slow down. However, finding upgrades and not having to buy upgrades makes a world of difference.

Also, playing Diablo with a controller is cake. I mean, it's really a great way to play Diablo. The inventory system is a little clumsy and takes some adjustment, but overall I'm loving playing this on Xbox. Sitting on my couch vs. sitting at my computer is so much of an upgrade to me. I didn't play D3 on PC, but I spent a fair amount of time on the first two games on my PC.

Anyway, I have been wanting Diablo for consoles for such a long time. When it was finally announced, I was so excited and I have not been disappointed. I'm looking forward to starting some new characters and running them up to level 60.

I thought about trying console but I've already logged 400+ hours on the pc version. I am wondering what I'm going to do with 500 million gold though.

Well, the auction tabs are mostly shut down, only the open auctions and completed are still accessible.

I made some quick cash unloading stuff I didn't need, at below normal market to be sure, but I wanted it gone quick and that it did.

The newer loot drop set up IS better, although my gear for the most part was pretty good, I have found some upgrades in the last week. Heck, now that I think about it, I found 4 pieces of legendary that I've swapped out two pair of set items for. AND I actually crafted a set of bracers that were an upgrade as well, big surprise.

Seems to be a shift towards more vitality on everything as well as what ever the primary is on your toon's abilities. My damage has raised a bit and my health has jumped over 4 fold easily. Not quite the paper tiger I use to be. Some of the skills have dropped in damage as well though I see. My traps aren't quite what they used to be.

The revised Paragon set up seems pretty nice as well.

The only thing I really see cash for now is combining gems maybe? I'm a bit down the food chain in that respect. The new diamonds are nice though.

Gold will mostly be for repairs, gem combining. And unsocketing. Right now, it costs 75k to unsocket a marquise gem. Marquise and imperial level gems will drop from monsters in RoS, but you'll still need some cash so you can move them around when you find an upgrade. Not sure what the price for combining gems at that level are though.

Yeah, I should have blown most of my remaing gold on gems. I'd spent 8 million in the past week, but held on to a lot of the rest.
